I am sure this item in the FAQ is what I am having a problem with:

When the bose head unit is removed from the wire harness the accessories power lead is disconnected by the pcm. The acc wire is what 'tells' your headunit to turn on so you'll have to tap into some other source for this. The easiest place to tap this lead from is fuse number 22 under the passenger floor board.
Being the amateur that I am, I need more detail that this.
I am adding a Kenwood deck. I have connected both the Yellow (Constant) power and Red (Acc/Ignition) power wires from the Kenwood adapter to the GM adapter provided by Crutchfield. The head unit is getting power becuase the red security light flashes when I remove the faceplate and I can hear things happening inside when I hit the reset button. Apparently I am having the issue mentioned in the FAQ and crutchfield forgot to mention needing the connect the (red?) power wire to somewhere else.
Can someone provide more detail on where I can find this fuse, how I connect into it or whatever to get this puppy to power up?
i'v'e been meaning to clean that up, but my new install is taking all my time. check this out:
How do I get the acc power for my h/u?
if you look in the passenger footwell, pull out the cover and look in the top left corner. There will be a small plug with three wires (orange, yellow, & black) that are just taped up. Check out this schematic to see which fuses they use, but the yellow wire is the +12V switched, and that I am sure of.
I used scotts faq mention of the yellow wire in my install and can confirm it works just fine, took me about 5 minutes to realize what was wrong when I wired up my new HU and nothing happened
It is located just above the left top corner of the main comp brain in the metal box in the passenger footwell. They are pretty short however so don't mess up your butt connector/soldering
OK, had to do some other stuff, so I am back at it again.
I have come to a couple of conclusions. One, I have no idea what I am doing and two, I should have paid to have this done.
Now that I have vented, I still do not understand what you mean when you say tap into fuse 22. How do I do this? Do you mean put a fuse into that slot with a wire wrapped around one leg? I have put a lot of radios and speakers in, but I have always had a cable harness to provide power...never put a radio in a car with something fancy like the Bose systems.
Thanks in advance for any more detail you can provide.

Still looking for a quick tip on how to make use of fuse 22 to power on my head unit. Is there some device I should use that will help me tap into that fuse?
For a short term test, I tried putting a fuse in empty fuse slot 22 in the passenger footwell with the wire wrapped around one leg. No joy. Head unit does not power up. If I do this with fuse 5, I get power but it stays on all the time. At least I know the head unit is good.
I can see the bundle of three wires (red, yellow and purple, I beleive). The problem is that my hands are too big to get in there and splice into it.
Did I do something wrong when I tried fuse 22...should I have tapped in via another method? Is there another wire I can use that is slightly more accessible?
Call a smaller friend of yours to do the splicing for you!
Pull the passnger seat out and give yourself some room to lay in there and make it happen. My hands are not small by any means and it did take me about 4 or 5 repositions to get in there at a position to make that splice on the yellow wire. IMO it is the easiest wiring solution.
OK, so I think I was looking at the wrong wires. Above my BCM there are two bundles of wires plugged in with black plugs and green clips. This is what I was looking at.
On the www.Spdkillz.com site (great site to visit), I found these pics:
I DO NOT have this bundle of wires in my car. The clip that he shows the bundle attached to does not even exist in my car. If the wires are hidden somewhere, I am not seeing them. I have a 2004, does that matter?
Hard to see from those pics in relation to my car. Mine is an 01 z06 and the 3 wires were taped off behind some black electrical tape up in the top corner above the left side of that metal box. I can't make out from those where to look, sorry at work can't help more than that They were not hard to find as they were not connected to anything nor going anywhere.
Thanks for all the help guys, but this is taking way more time and causing more frustration than I intended. She is back to stock and I am going to have it installed by some pros. If anyone in the Portland area has done this install and wants some cash money, let me know.
I should have known better than to start the install. I don't have enough patience. We'll let the experts handle it. Taking her in tomorrow to our local CarToys...the installer there has a good rep and has done several car show installs and, more importantly, I get to watch the install and make sure they don't scratch my baby.
Thanks for your help anyhow. This forum is just awesome!
