Trying to decide whether or not its worth it to try and cram 2 12"s in the rear, so I thought i'd pose a Q to the forum:

Powered by a JL/US Amps 500/1 monoblock, which do you think will put out more bass, 2 Kole 12"s or a single JL 13w7? The Kole's will be WAY cheaper, I know a guy that can get me factory direct pricing. But the box constro/rear hatch reconfig. will be more expensive and a far greater PITA, I'm afraid.

I don't know that much about the Koles, but they seem to be some nice looking subs. I like the MFW10's and 12's because of their shallow mounting depth. I would say the JL 13w7 would be the way I would go between the two choices given. The w7 line is definately a hard sub to beat! Since I have never heard the Koles in person, I can't give you any feedback pertaining to those.

Yeah, the MFW-12s were the direction I was planning on going, and they would be a heck of a lot cheaper, but tearing the whole rear of the car out is not something I'm particularly interested in doing right now.

If I could find the paneling and carpet cheap, It might be worth it, I've been wanting to get rid of the pewter and go to all black.

The mounting depth of that 13w7 will require a custom enclosure. IE raised trunk floor or some other version of above the center cargo area enclosure. Needs a fair amount of air space and is what 8" deep? And the magnet assembly is kinda wide too IIRC. Would probably have to come out of the floor about 5" or so to make it fit. But it is doable.

Without running out to look, I think there may be 5 inches of space with room for the glass.

Maybe PM wiz or knew as they can both store their tops and have 3 subs in their systems both of which are out above the trunk floor (kinda understated heh). I bet they would have measurements for how much you could come out of the floor and still store the tops without hitting.

I can't imagine what a 13W7 would sound like in the Vette. I just got a 10W7 installed in mine today and it blows my mind. The sheer amount of base I get out of it is unbeleivable.

Thanks again, y'all. I know these, "which ones louder" kind of questions can get old, but there's enough common ground around here that you guys can understand, and thats what makes CF so great!
