I have installed a factory XM radio module from and '06 C6 into my '05 C6 1SB equipped car. Although the factory wiring harness is present in the enclosure behind the driver's seat the Bose head unit does not see the new module.
Is there any way, short of an expensive trip to a dealer, to reset the BCM so that the computer does see the module? I have a real problem with the concept of spending a labor hours ($95) to instal the module (approximately a 5-minute job I have been told), especially when that price is more than I spent for the module itself.
So,you've taken an 06 FACTORY BOSE XM EQUIPPED RADIO,and stuck it in an 05???I was at the dealer last week asking if this very thing could be done. They said the radio is 500 bucks w/exchange.Is that what you paid??They did mention that they weren't sure about all the wiring...I know this doesn't answer your question, but Im extatic that someone has done the swap!!! OH,and if you could post a picture I'd appreciate it deeply!!
Actually, the Bose radio was already in the car as part of the 1SB package. All I'm trying to do is to add the XM module for the radio.
It's really not that hard as the wiring for the module is present in the left rear speaker enclosure, so all that has to be done is to add the micro XM antenna in a convenient location and run the antenna lead to the module.
My problem is getting the existing Bose head unit to recognize the module itself. It appears that a visit to the dealer will be necessary to get the Body Control Module (BCM) reprogrammed with the code to recognize that it has satellite capability. I'm still trying to figure out a way to reprogram the BCM myself as I have a real problem paying for a labor hour for a 5-minute operation, particularly when this cost exceeds what I paid for the module.
As for the cost of the module, I bought it from a forum member who was upgrading his radio and simultaneously swapping out his XM for Sirius. If this works, the best $80 I've paid to mod my car!
SO,I don;t have to exchange my bose, because i also have the 1sb pkg,all i need is the module???By all means, please let me know if you get it working!!!I'm going thru a friggin pain w/the aftermarket setup and the thumping i'm getting in the radio!!! I don't want an aftermarket radio, because i like the stock look and the multiple cd player.
Gotta believe this is headed for the dealer for a Tech II programming session. Considering that the radios have to match up the VIN on the car in the software these days, I can't see how else you're going to get it to work. No plug & play here!
Somehow (he doesn't know what he did), the mechanic at the local dealership, got the Bose Head Unit to recognized the GM (Delphi made) XM module but it showed as "XM Locked" on the display. When I got home I unplugged the module and immediately reconnected it and it began to play.
After I shut off the engine and restarted the car the radio then displayed only channels 1 & 2 which is reasonable as I had not activated the radio with XM itself. A quick phone call to them and that problem was corrected. The thing I gained, but a great improvement, is the ability to turn off the radio when I shut the car down. I had inadvertantly left the Roady II in the console plugged into the cigarette lighter jack and run the battery down a couple of times.
Interesting to note however, is that according to the mechanic, the service writer, and, at least according to them, the GM Technical Assistance Center (T.A.C.) that you "cannot add" XM to car if it was not orginally built with it. They even went so far as to tell me that it was a different BCM for each type of car. . .not knowing that I would check to find there is one and only one BCM for a 2005 Corvette (part #H15216908).
As for the antenna, I hot glued a micro antenna to the top of the rear glass and ran the antenna lead down the interior of the halo to the module which is placed inside the left rear cargo area, just behind the left rear speaker as the wiring is present there.
