C6 I-POD Neucleus NC-X2i Interface nightmare

For $189 it is a bit pricey, but you do get not only an iPod interface, but a regular Aux-in port too. Personally, I am leaning towards having 2 or 3 MP3 CDs instead of the iPod, which use the CD screen on the nav screen. Instead of one line of 20-30 characters, it uses the full screen and displays Artist, Album and Song Name. The Track Select feature lets me browse the entire song list and choose the one I want, change from sequential to randon, etc. Everything the iPod "should" do, but aint. You can fit 600MB of MP3s on a single CD, and that is a LOT of songs. I'm on the fence on this one. Perhaps if they release some software upgrade to address the button quirkiness and add a song select feature that doesn't rely on a non-existent tuning ****...

sending the unit. First looks (at least on this version):
1) It DOES appear to shutdown -- no green light and no sounds out of
the head unit. BUT head unit did appear to make some of it's noise
occasionally with the iPod connected (and no green light)... have
not had enough time to determine if it will eventually stop - don't
know if it's part of the normal charging. If I disconnect the iPod
after shutdown it will stop.
2) Keys are still random in what / when they display
3) CD changer comes and goes on the head unit - tried with and
without the 'CD cable'
Whether or not it kills the car again is to be seen.......
Here are my findings with Nucleus version 5.03 (My 05 C6 is an A4 vert with stock Nav, XM activated and stock CD player upgraded to play MP3's)1) After 5 dead batteries
with the old version, I am hopeful. So far the green light on the unit turns off when the green ignition switch turns off. Before the green light on the Nucleus would sometimes stay on, sometimes not. It will take a few weeks before I am convinced that this issue is resolved.2) I use the unit primarily for the AUX port to play my Zen Nano MP3 player (the AUX can be used for an iPod by the way, just plug a Y-connector, purchased separately, into the headphone jack). This is working perfectly. The fidelity is good but not great and even though I turned the AUX gain to max on the Nucleus, the volume is slightly lower than the AM/FM/CD volumes. This means when I switch back and forth I have to adjust the volume on the head unit. I suspect this is more a function of the Zen then anything else.
3) With the iPod (tested a Nano and a Mini) hookup, manual mode works fine. Sound quality is great, better than AUX and the volume output equals the AM/FM/CD volumes. You can advance songs by pushing the seek twice, that is about it. I have not tried the advanced mode where the head unit controls the iPod. I will do more testing later (and when my daughter lets me borrow her iPod
)4) I have no problems switching between AM/FM/CD/MP3 or regular XM so far. This was a problem before, the Nucleus would lock up the head unit.
5) The XM display buttons move around very little, they seem quite stable actually. Not perfect but 500% better than the first Nucleus unit.
If the unit remains stable, it is definitely a keeper. I will let everyone know if it betrays me!
1 - the ipod keeps trying to turn the volume up and doesn't show the time length of the song.
2 - the touch screen doesn't show neucleus or ipod buttons
3 - the airbag light on the dash is staying on. Its gone off for a while when I drive but then comes back on.
Have you guys had any of the same problems and how do i get logjam or AI to upgrade the one I have?

On Problem #2, the screen labels are wacky, but from the instructions I dont think they never actually change. This system doesnt seem to be designed to take advantage of the nav screen buttons by renaming them. Sometimes 1 button will change to --iPod-->, sometimes to NEUCLEUS, and never the same one. The others never change. I gave up and mounted the iPod next to my radio using a Proclip holder. I also use the Neucleus on manual mode and control the iPod manually. Much more satisfying experience, although you cannot hide the iPod in the center console (which gets too hot anyway) or glove compartment.
It is also taking waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than 20 minutes for my iPod to shut down. More like a few hours. And, when you turn off the car, it wont pause the iPod - it keeps playing. You have to manually hit pause (I guess a result of having it in manuall mode?). But, when you turn the car back on, it pauses. ???? The problem here is that if I leave the car, it will never shut off if it is still playing.
Email Logjam tech support. I did, and they suggested I email AI tech support, which I did, and am waiting for a response on another problem (satellite radio doesnt work unless I cycle button #1) and will send them another one with these iPod issues to see if another update is forthcoming.
Now, having complained about all these things, let me tell you, when it works, it is SWEEEEEEEEET! I am an iPod NUT, and having my iPod connected to my stereo is pure bliss, these problems notwithstanding. Amazing how one may compromise quality for convenience (and for having my iPod close!!!)
Here's a vid clip of the unit working .
