Far be it from me to cast disparaging remarks about the manufacturer of my car but . . .
I have just been informed by the Service Dept. of my dealer, who after "intense consultation with the T.A.C." that it is impossible to add an XM radio module to a Corvette if it was originally built without it. The reason given is that the Body Control Module (basically the computer that governs everything but the engine) is different for each type of Corvette. According to them, there are different BCMs for cars (1) with Nav; (2) without Nav; (3) with XM radio; (4) without XM radio; (5) with Nav and XM radio; (6) without Nav and XM radio, ad nauseum. With that many parts to manufacture and keep straight its no wonder that Delphi and GM are having money troubles. My preliminary and totally unofficial count is currently at 64 differently equipped Corvettes necessitating an equal number of different BCMs!!!
Of course, this could be : based upon a lack of knowledge how to instal the radio properly.
Anybody got any thoughts on how to do this? The car is 1SB equipped and the wiring harness is connected to the XM module which came from an '06 Corvette.

It is entirely possible... but stunning to think they can't flash the damned BCM.
I know this was a common problem back in the 1980s... For example, Chyrsler, with the K-Cars, had 30+ different part numbers for ECUs!!! this was based on cars with and without carbs, A/C, manual transmissions, autos, etc. So if you have a carb'd car, with ac and a manual, it would have a different ECU than a carb'd car with ac and an auto.
I can see why there would be different modules for automatic and manual, but after that, I don't see where it should make a hill of beans difference.
I would call Chris May at Superior Chevy (1-800-728-8267) - he is the God of all things GM Parts, tell him you are a Forum member and that I sent you - or, call GM help line directly.
Yes, it does. However, with the wiring plugged into the module the radio HU does not see the module which necessitated the trip to the dealer this morning.

Did you check to see if the wiring harness is connected to the 12pin data / cd changer port on the HU? Possibly it's not as the vehicle did not have XM factory installed.
Sorry, dont know what else to suggest. I know that when I bought my g35 coupe, i had the existing wiring built in and all i had to do was plug in the xm sat module and that would activate the sat button for use with xm. I would assume that this would work the same, but i guess not. I heard another guy doing something similar to you. hopefully he chimes in and can offer help. All he did was plug the module in. I'll do a quick search to see what i come up with.
sorry, i didnt realize that it was you who spoke about this earlier. I cannot believe that there is no way for the dealer to do this and make it work. There has to be a way. gl
if you use an aftermarket system you can run it through an fm modulator. it runs in line with the antenna lines from the stock radio. just tune it to a certain station and it plays through that. it might be a cheaper option than replacing a computer. just an idea.
