Default Need help.....poor sound after HU install

I don't know why, but my stock speakers sound worse now than they did on the Stock HU.....??????????

I just had my HU installed last week, Had a problem with the Bose mid/bass not being on after install, that sounded pretty bad, but with help from the forum I found out the door amps were not turning on, so I get the info to the installer, and now the are on.

Heres the problem, the speakers sound really bad. How can I tell if the installer has the gains on the OEM pac1 too high or too low ? The door sound muddy to me, no sharp bass(or as before), and If I add any bass on the HU it sounds even worse. The tweedlers don't sound to good either, I swear the tweedlers and new ARC audio sub sounded better, without the powered Bose. The sound without the sub turned on is just not right. I Can't adjust the sub to make up for the poor sound, it can just hide abit of the muddy bass, but the system still sounds muddy and unclear. Iv'e heard that a good HU can make the stock speakers sound better, thats why I started with that, before doing the whole speaker system. I'm married !

I have messed with the Alpine 9857 in all different areas and don't know what to do. I really think the PAC OEm 1 is the problem, but it's a PIA to get to. If I were to guess the power of the Alpine is too much for the stock Bose, (ie that's why you use the OEM pac1) If I have the volume past 15-18 the sound really blows.......

I would love some advise Pleeeeeaaaase !!!!!!!

Thanks for any help......... Tim the guy with the Coolest HU plate and worse sound

Sounds to me that the gain on the pac-oem is too high and not allowing the HU to send its max clean signal to the (adaptor) and then to the speakers and you are getting distortion. I do not have any experience with the adaptors though so I am hoping more people jump in and give their opinion/experience with this.

From a tuning standpoint you are probably better off turning the pac-oem down a bit and running the Alpine up to around 27/28 as your max volume and then tuning the pac-oem and gain on your sub amp accordingly.

Thanks for your advise... i know you post alot on here, and alot of people like me welcome your input. I had my sub sounding pretty good before the door speakers turned on, it was sharper, now with no bass turned on with the HU it sounds under powered and flat, i guess I mean it sounded better with a little boost from the HU, but i can't do that with out makeing the whole system sound bad now.

I wish i knew someone here in PHX, Az area who would listen to my system and help me out.......... my installer has taken the HU in and out about 5 times trying to fix the door speaker not being on, now he has it on and I find out it needs to come out again to fix the gains

thanks again fej

Where did he mount the adaptor? I can't promise that that will fix the problem but it sounds like the likely culprit to me. I would wait before you have him pull it out again to see if some others reply to this with more adaptor experience. Glad to help bro

Not sure what you mean by where is it mounted ? The OEM pac1 is wired between the HU and the factory wiring harness, and has gains on it to adjust the power going to the speakers.

I assume the harness is just sitting on or behind the HU. Are you suggesting it could be picking up some electrical noise ?

I can't add any bass to the speakers at a volume above 15 or the sound really goes down in quality........ in general at all volume levels the "normal" quality of the system is not there.

thanks guys Tim

What fej is sayin is where is the gain set at? i think. I dont remember his post. Definitly check to make sure that your gains are not set too high on the adapter

The installer says the gains are turned down, but where I don't really know. I talked to PAC and the tech told me to make sure the wires are correct and to use the high level + speaker wires on the output, instead of the lower........that almost seems it would add to the problem, not fix it. But I'm not a expert .

thanks for the help

besides the gains , what else could cause the poor sound....... maybe the doors being wired backwards ?

I really hate to take the car back for a 3rd time !
