C4 read ground
The battery most of the time even acts kinda of like a filter and will help eliminate interferrence problems and noises you can pick up from other parts of the car.
When designing very complex systems most of the time we ran all grounds to a single junction than ran the junction directly to the battery for ground.
Just make sure you use a large enough ground cable for the run length. We always ran the same size ground cable as our main power cable.

On the most basic install a ground near the component is usually ok but it always allows for the risk of a ground loop problem.
I've done single amp systems and I've done multiple amp system with 8 or 10 amps and whenever I've designed the wiring to run directly to the battery we've never had a problem with noise or ground loops.
It's MUCH easier to do it right the first time than get everything wired up and than have to start tracing down noise problems afterwards, especially if it's a very custom install that may take a full two days disassembly just to get to the wiring!
Believe me, when you are doing a system that cost the customer $10k to $60k (that was prices from 10 years ago!) you do NOT want them returning with noise issues you now need to try and find and fix, you want it right the first time around.
going directly to the battery helps greatly in this.
We also troubleshooted many systems not done by us with noise problems. Want to guess how we solved them in most cases........
