Best place to install amp??
I have a fairly small amp (RF 250a2) that i'm going to bridge and run a single 12in sub..
I'm not really wanting to "display" the amp and was wondering where would be a good place to tuck it out of the way..
Anyone have pictures of their installs to give me an idea??

I know that a lot of people mention putting it on the wall behind the pasenger seat. I plan to do exactly that with 2 medium to small sized amps with a distribution block. It puts you closer to your battery and the commonly used seat bolt for your ground.

I'm trying to keep it close to the back as possible.. I haven't looked yet, but what are some good placing to ground at the very back??
Or is the best place the seatbelt bolt or the seat bolts?

I'm no expert, but any large bolt that goes directly to the frame or any other large metal assembly works well. As for mounting in the back, it's been done plenty of times. A quick scan of all the threads in the section will turn up some pics. The only considerations are: the longer the RCA, ground, and power wires are, the more likely interference can be introduced into your system. I've seen amps mounted in the small cargo hatches as well as to the back wall itself. Many with larger amps like to display them in the hatch right behind the seats. I like behind the seat because it offers ease of adjustment or troubleshooting, if needed. For practical purposes, this seems to be the best option. However, you are only limited by your imagination and willingness to take a risk. I say, take it to an audio place and have them look it over and give you some options. Then, put it in yourself and save some cash. It's actually easier than you think.

I saw pics of a very slick subwoofer/amp setup very recently on this forum, where the amp was mounted vertically below the trunk lid latch, directly behind the center cover where the sub went. It looked ideal to me.

I spoke to a stereo installer this weekend and i told him i planned on building my own "stealthbox" type inclosure to house and 8" sub and amp in the center compartment.
He said mounting the amp in the compartment close to the sub like that would kill the amp. He said that the internals of the amp wouldn't last a year from the vibration and "sine" waves of the sub. Is this guy full of bull or is this a very legit. concern?
I am thinking he's full of it because he was trying to sell me a real JL stealthbox and because many of the JL stealthboxes for pickup trucks have amp mounts directly on the side of the box.
(I'm not trying to hijack the thread, just thought answers to these questions would help anyone decide where to mount there amp)

Sounds to me like the best place for you might be the rear trunk wall. There is a handy bolt for grounding near the center of the trunk (in a coupe at least).

here is a pic of my amp and local. No heat issues. With passengers 6' and taller the seat touches the amp, but barely. No heat issues and the top of the amp where it touches barely gets warm. With smaller passengers i just move the seat up a click and it never touches. If you dont have a power passenger seat, you may be able to stuff it under there if the amp is small enough. Oh and as ghetto as it sounds, because I wasnt sure if i want this to be my final install spot for the amp, all i did to mount this was screw into the carpet and foam. Holds just fine with 4 screws in there.
It sure is clean looking having the amp mounted there!
