C5 CD changer help, please
Second, reading many of these posts, I find that many members have the habit of trying to convince other members not to install cd changers, but to interface with their iPods. IF THAT IS YOUR ADVICE, PLEASE... DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD. I just want a couple simple answers to my simple questions. I'm not looking to be "converted." I am SO "backward" in my thinking that I am removing the cd head unit in favor of a cassette player, yes, I am doing this on purpose! And I want to add a cd changer to my car.
So, my questions are:
1) I have an FRC and I feel that the "trunk" space is limited. Is there a smaller dimension changer that will work with our system? e.g. is there a 10 disc or 6 disc cd changer that would fit in the passenger side well area, not the center well like the 12 disc changer? The 12 disc changer is to larger to fit in either side well. I noticed a 6-disc Cadilac changer that looks smaller, could that work with our head units?
2) I have the stock 12 disc cd changer already, but have not mounted it. I don't like the stock mounting location. Would the stock vertical changer still work if mounted horizontally? I found that mountng horizontal changers vertically is not good... the one in my 98 Trans Am jammed when I tried that.
Thanks for your input. And if you have any other suggests (besides MP3s), I'd like to hear them.
Thanks for your time. Bob
ttt for ya. I dont have any experience with cd changers in the vettesThanks for the TTT.
I am not sure about your FRC, but in my Coupe, I relocated the 12 disc changer to the passenger side compartment and it fit fine, so I am not sure why yours wont fit.
As far as the casette add on, I have a stand alone cassette player (from GM) that plugs into the back of the bose head unit, but it plugs into the same slot that the cd changer plugs into, so you would have to choose between the changer or the cassette player.
I would say that the cassette head unit with the changer in the rear would be your best option, like I said I mounted mine in the small passenger side compartment and it works fine.

Also, do you have a picture of your cd changer relocation? It does not look like it fits, as the "factory" mount I purchased is too wide to fit in either side well. So, I assume that you mounted the changer directly to the trunk, without the mount?
The third option I was considering, is to use the "stand alone" in dash 6 disc changer from the Escalade. I'm pretty sure the 00-02 has compatiable software with the cassette headunit.
Danny, thanks for your help, and let me know about the cassette head unit.
