Default Radio Restarting...

I have a question about my blaupunkt MP40 head unit. When I turn it up real loud, it will reset its self. It happens sooher (lower volume number) the higher the ( bass + ) is.

The headunit turns off (I know this because the antenna starts to go down, then turns back on, antenna goes back up), the cd player reads my mp3 disk to find where I was, and then begins playing again, only this time at a lower volume level.

It was professionally installed over two years ago before I got the car.

What would make it do that? If it didn't come back on immediately I would think it would be a power issue, drawing to much, or reseting a circuit, but I dont think thats the case.

Overheating can make weird stuff happen. If the problem exists congruent with volume adjustments (power draw) then I'd say you have internal failure in your head unit or a faulty external ground.

Does the deck run hot?
Does it make scratchy sounds before shutting down?

Blaupunkt ain't what they used to be.
Even the old stockers that came with the late 70's Porsches were awesome and had internals that were ahead of their time with killer tuners.

You might want to check you wiring behind the unit and at the speakers. Anytime speaker wires become grounded or touch one another this can happen. Even a speaker that works but has bad coils will cause this. I had a Sony CD player that did exactly what you described. It wasn't hot yet and when I turned the volume up it would turn off and turn back on. Happened to be a bad connection.
