Default Newbie Question - Sirius Starmate

My first attempt at an audio upgrade. I'm installing a Starmate in the ashtray compartment. Atenna hookup was a breeze, fm modulator hooked into HU with adapter plugs, done. My trouble is hardwiring the power....I'm having trouble here. Where do I hook up to and how? I need detailed instructions for the rookie...Any help would be much appreciated.

also, how do I safely dissconct the lighter so I can put it back in at some point.....

the ligher is a plug at the back... I would think if you tapped into the wires with a 3M type pinch connector, you should be ok.

if you check out the c5 FAQ at the top there should be a post on where to tap the ACC power. I think comes off the passenger footwell fuse box.

Post #9 in the C5 FAQ thread.....

Pull up the fuse box (two or three screws and a plastic clip), on the grey connector (C2) pins E10 and F10 (both orange, I used F10 since it was on the bottom row and easier to get at) supply 12V RAP power to the stock radio amps. Use one of these gizmos to tap into the F10 wire and use it as your +12VDC source for your Sirius. Any ground point can be used for the -.

The reason for using the RAP powered wire is simple. If you use the cig lighter wires you'll have to turn off the starmate every time you get out of the car or the battery may go dead. If you use the stock switched accessory wires in the footwell then your starmate would go dead as soon as you turned off the car, but your radio would still be on (and playing static) until you opened a door.

Happy modding, ask away if you have questions

Where can I pick up that GIZMO to connect the wires? Home Depot? AutoZone?

there is a small vertical fusebox on the right hand side of the fuse compartment under the passenger side floor. I used the 15A WPR/WASHER fuse to power my starbase. It doesn't stay on with RAP, but it does stay on in ACC mode, and turns off when the car is off.

Sorry, just noticed your pic, the above is for a C6
