Only they sell them, $400. You can usually find them on ebay for $350, which is nuts for a used one when you think about it. It's actually more cost effective to sell on ebay and buy a new one than to pay V1 for the upgrade.

V1 apparently had some issues with their first POP detector, I don't know if theyve improved on it yet.

Hmm my S2 indicates it has forward and aft sensors and POP, probably why it got good reviews and was so pricey.

I choose this model because it didn't require a power cord. I didn't want some tool to be obtrustive in the cockpit.

Valentine, aka V1, says on their website, pop radar section, they've got two diff types of methods to locate pop radar.

If it was a problem, it seems not to be. But it could mean some existing (read: older) V1's might have to be "upgraded" at owner cost, of course.

Yeah I read that, sounds to me too like the first rev firmware had an issue and they needed to update across the board.

I have a V1 detector IMHO the best on the market.

Get a laser jammer - Laser is nasty - I don't care what detector you have - come up against a smart officer and a laser gun and you can kiss your *** goodbye.

Bought all my V1's on ebay for under $200 about 3-4 years ago and still going strong. Front, back and side detection and shows where it is and mine have detected the radar at least 2 miles before i've seen the cop.

Just picked up a Solo S2 from Escort. Seems like it got good reviews and I like that it is battery powered. Been placing it just below the rear view mirror I suppose for the best view forward/aft.
...i used to attach mine high on the windshield but, now i attach mine to the windshield, 2-3 inches up from the dash. i used to run it high thinking that since the car is low that i'd have a better chance of detection until i saw a video on the subject on the net.

law enforcement radar personnel are directed to "shoot" at the drivers side headlight area 1st, to get a valid and accurate reading. 2nd, if that doesn't work, they shoot the passenger side. according to the video, it is because they are looking for the greatest reflective surface to obtain a "reading". they are trying to get a "reflection" off of the reflector inside the headlights.

if that doesn't work (pop-up headlights, etc), they will shoot the front license plate area. since the "beam" is shot low and at the front of the car (laser notorious for this) a detector mounted low will "catch" the splatter of the speed calculating device beam.

Nothing wrong with your S2 and it will provide you years of x, k, and ka band free of tickets. Hang on to it and you will be happy with it.

This forum is bad for the V1 peer pressure...I've personally run BEL 985's and now the new RX-65 for years of ticket free driving...and they have saved my bacon on numerous occasions.

On that subject, I'll point out yet again since Valentine who used to troll the forum and quote Radar Roy online...no longer holds top spot on Roy's site. http://www.radarbusters.com/products...onics/rx65.asp

Oh and I've wired the top of my windshield passenger side for power and have my detector there. It's state law here in MN that the detector be at or above rear view mirror height. Check if your state may have a similar law.

au contraire! I, for one, wasn't "pushing" Valenitne as the best, just quoting from their site re pop radar. Others were probably giving their opinion that it may be the best, and that it works for them.

That's ok; you're saying Bel's been good to you. That's fine, too. Never hurts to know all the brands out there and how they seem to do for us.

I'd think, what IS something to note is when someone sez XYZ Brand is a real dog and does a crappy job (dog and crap, a real pun together, doncha agreee?) of radar detecting.

Just my opinion, tho....

Default VALENTINE 1....hands down, no comparison

I have gone through 3 radar detectors before getting my V1.

Must say hands down no comparison at all.

I saw a V1 for the first time while on the 2nd corvetteforum cruise. A guy named Bliss had it in his Z06. I was very impressed by it.

I bit the bullet and saved the $300 and bought one used off ebay. I would never buy another radar detector again. I have both my cars wired for it.
It has saved me so many times I can't count that high lol.

Don't even think twice bout getting this detector. Just do it.
You don't need any of the fancy gadget wiring either. Just standard 2 wire phone cord it all that is needed.

I have a V-1 also. It works for me. I mount it on the driver's visor and wired into the make-up mirror light.

Here's another alternative, Lani. Just carry a few of these:

They work, really! I had printed up a bunch on yellow card stock as a gag gift for one of my younger brothers who just hasn't grown up yet. I happened to have one with me a while back when I got pulled over for mildly speeding. I handed it to the officer along with my license. He laughed in spite of himself and gave me a warning instead of a ticket. Now, he very well might have intended to give me only a warning anyway but what the heck, who am I to say? I've since printed up a few more...

You've noticed that, too??!! On my last trip to Kansas in April, my V-1 lit up several times out in the middle of nowhere. On at least two of those occasions, the ONLY vehicle within miles was a GMC SUV. It was making me crazy.
What is it about those vehicles that triggers the V-1??

Oh, yeah, the V-1 sits on my dash. Works great.

Funny John.... I think I used them all up a short while back when I got stopped and was given a warning. First time in probably 30 years since I was last stopped.

Well I got to use my S2 some this holiday weekend. Every time it went off it was right on accurate.

I tried it in that lower position but the glare was way too annoying. So I moved it back up under the mirror just low enough so I can still see the display on the front.

I like it. I like knowing when I'm being painted by radar.

Thanks for all the tips too.

Radar dector, what are you kidding I have MASTER BADGE. OK let me explaine from the standpoint of a street cop. Think of it this way, you are on patrol and make a traffic stop, and as luck would have it the traffic stop goes bad. Next thing you know you are in a fight for your life because some joe sh*t the rag man does not want to go back to jail. (something about bubba that bothers him). You call on your radio for backup, if you can even get to your radio, and your nearest backup may be 5 minutes away. Trust me when I tell you (I know form personal experience) the fight will be over in less than a minute, one way or another. So your nearest back up may be that off duty officer driving past who stops and bails you out.

So with that in mind most cops will give professional courtesy to another officer. So no need for a radad dector, at least in my car.

That's what we like to hear: double standard for everyone who wears a badge Don't look for sympathy from me. I know it's not an easy job, neither is mine. And I don't brag how I get over the regular joe who pays your, and my, salary.

I have to agree that certainly is a double-standard. I wasn't aware the officer's are allowed to break the laws and not have to answer for the infractions yet average American or visitors are held to a higher standard. What am I saying... like this wasn't a known thing. Of course they are allowed and of course they are protected among themselves.

Ok this one hi-jacks the post.
