Default Illuminated HU Mount

When installing, did yall just tap into the HU power and ground lines?

Oh, and can you add a dimmer to LEDs?

Thanks!

Sure, here it is. Not installed yet though. The Corvette is lit up by a block of 6 blue LEDs.

00Hawk#140 posted a thread about these a while back, so he's the one responsible for finding them. He has a sweet custom Z06 mount. The company is humount.com. They do take a bit to get to you though. I bought mine on 6/30 and just got it today.

Do you think I can just tap into the HU power lines to power the 6 LEDs?

yep, shouldn't be a problem. I would assume the LED's are already ready for 12V, and they draw hardly any current, so tapping into the wiring behind the radio is your best bet!! I don't know about the dimmer, but I imagine you could with the right parts...

Thanks Dave! I'm an electrical noob/idiot. I'm assuming that it's also wired for 12v power since its an auto HU plate.

I wanted to make sure I wasnt going to short out my system if I taped into the HU power.

no, you won't short it out... LEDs usually only handle around 2 to 3 volts, but when wired with resistors, or in series, you can get them to be able to handle 12V. So, I would assume they are wired already for 12V, so sounds like all you gotta do is hook them up...

Put up some pics when you are done!!

Cool! Thanks again! I will be posting pics once I get everything installed and complete. I'm still waiting on a few things (amp & wiring) to get here and then I'm sure I will have a few more questions as I begin the install as this is my first full install.

I would be more than happy to help out with any questions or pic if needed of the wiring... drop me a message if you need to.
