EG bites the bullet....
And goes IN-SANE
There is
NO WAY I can describe this mod.
No way .
The pictures will have to speak for themselves....
Some perspective : the subwoofer in the background is a
12 inch Rockford Fosgate Stage 2
And the "little" speakers are 6.5 inches....
OK. Here is a 12inch sub...

That thing is gonna hit hard and very low. It's probably gonna hit so low that you may miss out on some of the those higher frequencies that your 12" would have produced. Deffinately gonna rock your insides though.

HAHA EG you are a crazy, crazy man. You better get a serious box built for that thing, like a 1.5" thick face to mount it on or more. You also better hope that something you plan in the system can play down to about 70hz (63hz?) or so to really make that monster shine you need to low pass it pretty low. G'luck on v3.0

I still can't find a decent grill for this monster - first time that Google has let me down.
I loved my 12inch Soundstream "spider" grill - but they only go to 15inch. Anyone know where I can get a 18inch grill? Or do I have to go custom?
And the box will be built to take it. I have something very special in mind.
I
don't have
Mad Skillz like the
Fiero guy or
our own Wiz1500 or
this crazy guy - but I can make a stout box.

EG,
I've got a 52" grill...but I love cooking my steaks on it, so you can't have it.
Seriously...PM Jersey Jay. He seems to be a stereo maven (trust me...his system is killer) and he may know where you can get an 18" grill.

18" grill...try Parts Express, I know they have 18" grills. They might not meet your expectations though.
I have 6 JL Audio 18W6s in my house. At one time, two of them were in my red Eagle Talon TsiAWD
So what JL model is your 18"?
Wecome back to the Audio Forum, it seems you've been gone awhile

It is a 18W6. JL no longer makes a 18inch sub - their biggest is now is the 13inch
And I come and go in the Audio section. Most of my posts are in C5 General. They are usually not stereo specific but wrapped into some other mod that may not be of much interest over here (like my recent supercharger install)

DAMN.
That's sick, dude... sick.
as for a grill, JL Audio makes grills for all their subs, but they are simple metal screens. However, you can uploster them to look nice. I did...
another thought, you can make something... a little 1/4" MDF and some clever cutting with a scroll saw could make something very bad assed.
Coat it in fibreglass resin once done.

Really? I would like to get some hi-quality 18" grilles myself. Would you happen to have a link to those grills? Thanks in advance
IMO, the 18W6 was JL Audio's best 18". The 18W3 just didn't cut it for me. I don't think you will be disappointed in the output of the W6
I'm only using two of the six I own and none of them are in a vehicle. The two I'm using are providing the LFE in my home's 5.1 I'm using a Crown (aka JBL) K2 which is given the two subs 1800 watts rms.
Hmmm, I have another K2 and four more 18W6s just collecting dust
I have a guess, are you making the enclosure out of metal?

No, 3/4inch plywood and fibreglass. I am also creating hand made wheel tubs; this is the first time I have ever used fiberglass

Agreed. I thought I would try a hardwood plywood - like birch - just for something different.
I may change my mind when I actually start sonstructing the box.
