Thinking about finally ditching the factory system (did the speaker upgrade awhile back to hold me over until now). Let me hear some ideas of a total new system. I don't really care about Nav/DVD etc. but want really clean crisp sound. I also don't want to give up to much interior space to amps, subs, etc. Probably would go with some type of headunit that has internal storage since there are so many IPODs around our house... What say the experts?

Oh yeah - Car is a 2004 Z06
hmmm. well... it depends on what you think sounds good so you'll should take some time to listen to some speakers before you buy them. I'm a fan of cdt for front components and image dynamics for a sub. i've had a great experience with xtant amps for a relatively low power system. (75 watts x2 and 300+ x1 for the sub)
as far as internal storage...there isn't much that'll be in your pricerange from what i remember. I think your only two choices are the pioneer z1 and one of the eclipse head units. i think both of these are around the 2 grand mark. on that note... since you have ipods laying around, look into the new alpines. they have the best ipod integration so far but i think i'd rather get an ecplise and just manually control my ipod. the eclipse subs just kick butt!
another options, if you're not above going with used gear is building a car pc. i think component wise you'll be looking at about $1,200 new. then if you went with elemental designs products you would probably be set back about another $800 new. then you have to factor in wires and retexturing the modified radio surround.
Thans for the input - I won't compromise if it is not a huge difference in price... My local hi-fi buys has some Focal component speakers that are the best I have heard so far. I will try to do as much research as possible over the next few months to make sure I get it right the first time
I'm a big fan of Focals myself. I'm going to be putting 165KF 2 ways front & rear in my C6, driven by the stock NAV unit through a JL CleanSweep and an Alpine PDX 4.150. I'm mostly going with the Alpine because it's a decent amp that will fit perfectly into the trunk cubbies.
Amp, Cleansweep and drivers cost me about $1700 before interconnects and wires.
