New Alpine CD9857 Installed..
Bought the "kit" from Crutchfield and it was complete with the GM harness, chime, IPod cable, DD insert with cubby and stock antenna converter. Fit perfect and easy wiring.
Took my time and took me about 4 hours from start to finish.
Very easy job (toughest part was the damn power connection in the console).
Very nice unit, sounds great, even with the stock speakers. IPod interface speed and look up on the 9857 is as fast as searching and playing on the IPod itself. IPod playlists, albums, lookups all displayed on a dual line display on the 9857. Comes with a remote as well. Nice quality unit so far....
Sure beats hacking in a Nucleus or other peripherals IMHO.
Total cost from Crutchfield was $419.00 delivered.

I posted so if anyone else that is thinking of doing the Alpine 9857 installation on their own, I'm here to say it's a piece of cake and great results!
I'm no stereo guru by any means but I know the stock POS radio was a junker. Didn't want to pay the GM upgrade to a little better POS junker radio...hahahaha.
I didn't take pictures but I used most of Red-C6's write up that he did on the Eclipse head unit in 05. That was a great help in console and trim disassembly!
I tweaked his original installation instruction write up it for this basic installation if anyone is interested.

I have the exact unit in my DD (94 Ford Probe GT) and I absolutely love it (bought it through Crutchfield too
); I bought it solely for the iPod integration and as you mention: it's fast and IT ROCKS

Very crisp and clean. It wont win any competitions but it's more than enough for my old ears.
I figured why hassle with $200 interface gizmos that hack you stock POS radio when I can replace it with a high quality head unit for $400.00. I can always upgrade to better speakers and amp late if choose to.
If you want the information on the installation, just e-mail me.
