I just bought a Pioneer DEH-P5800MP Deck that Best Buy was going to install. They said they would have to make some minor modifications to my dash for the install. Can anyone tell me what this would mean? Cutting???
I don't know if I would trust the installers at Best Buy to make any modifications to your car. I had Best Buy install the XM in my Explorer and they told me they splice into the lighter wiring and not have any external wires and they would have a solid mounting fixture for mounting to the console.
They took forever to finish the car and when I finally picked it up, they had just plugged in the big cigarette power adapter in to the cigarette lighter and used double sided adhesive to stick the Roady2 to my stereo bezel...where I specifically told them NOT to put it.
I'm going to find someplace to install the Sirius in my C4.
DO NOT LET BEST BUY INSTALL ANYTHING. You think good installers work for them? I once, and only once brought one of my cars to Circuit City ( same as best buy) I gave them the 10 gauge wires and told them to I wanted the new speakers I had put in wired up directly to the amp. I had no time anymore to do the job or I would have done it. What does he do. He wires up the amp with the 10 gauge right to the factory harness. Who in there right mind would do this...a chain store installer. I had to rip it out and do it myself. Didn't even bother to go back, didn't pay much which should have tipped me off to what was in store. I wouldn't let these guys install a toaster oven in my house. Find a good shop that knows vette's.

The only thing you'd need to install that deck is a stereo adaptor mounting kit like THIS which converts the GM/Chevrolet 1.5 DIN stereo opening to standard 1 DIN for most aftermarket headunits. This mounting kit centers the headunit in the opening and fills the gaps with black textured plastic.
DIN is the standard width measurement for vehicle audio equipment. 1 DIN is how big that Pioneer you've got is. Nice deck, by the way, just don't let Best Buy anywhere near it.
By the way...not to sound hoity toity...but might save you some cash: The Best Buy unit was $199, but you could get the same deck from eTronics.com at $149 + $9.35 shipped to Wisconsin. You might consider returning the Best Buy unit, and saving $40 for a decent install.

I just finished doing mine. The only mod to the car was to bend the rear support (for the blows) to allow aftermarket hu to go far enough into the dash. You may need 90* adapters for the interconnects at the back of the hu. Good luck
and to all those that bash circuit city and besbuys not all of them do bad work, I installed for a circuit city for 3 years and if you saw my recent thread on a C5 I did I would say my work is pretty clean and solid

You are the exception to the rule
Eyeguy, did you read the C4 FAQ at the top of the section? It has all of the info you need to do it youself. Beleive me, the installers at Best Buy do not want to, or know how to work on your car; remember it is 14 years old!
Good Luck!

you are right though alot of stores have no idea what to do on a higher end car but that doesnt mean they are all crap, most places wont touch a vette though (meaning BB or CC)

Eyeguy - Honestly it doesn't matter one bit what anyone here interprets the meaning of "minor modifications" to mean to us, it matters what it means to Best Buy and more specifically the installer performing the work.
Did you think to ask him what he meant ? You can always go back and ask him BEFORE you let them do any work. Another tip, get his "minor modifications" in writing PRIOR to them starting on your car if you decide to go that route.

All that they should need is a $15 dash kit. I don't see any reason to cut your dash up. The old saying is you get what you pay for.

Late C4s (his profile says 92) have a double din opening.
Ask to have the install "lead" work on your car, and then ask if he has ever done one before. Yes I used to install there. I've said it before, these guys do more cars then anyone else. We had some bad ones, but the local Best Buy guys here have over 50 years experience between the two of them. You can get poor work anywhere.
let me just say that not all BBs and CCs are like this. i know many or most are, but some are not. i am an installer at CC and we have tons of standards we go by that i found to be amazing compared to what i had seen from other shops before them. and the BB here just got our second best installer from our store. so id trust either of us. but ive heard so many horror stories from other stores. i dont know why they all dont give a ****. also whatever they **** up is covered for life so take it back to them or another location and have them fix it.

Get a tuner that works specifically with your head unit and you can mount it behind the seat and just use the head unit to control everything. No extra screens or wires to get in the way and look ugly
I prefer Kenwood. And their OLD satellite unit works flawlessly on their brand new head units and can be bought off ebay for like $10. Good stuff.
