Default Help... My home DVD player

I have a 55" Sony Hi-Def TV and a Toshiba DVD Player...

For some reason the DVD picture is fine when I have it wired on the anolog connections... but when I hook it up on the Digital Component Connections, the DVD Picture on the TV plays in Black & White.

Any suggestions

Not sure what you mean by "Digital" component connections. Component video inputs (Red, Green, Blue) are by their very nature analog signals. Are you referring to a DVI or HDMI connection? Those are digital connections.

If they're component connections you can get a black & white picture like that if you have one of the 3 cables not making connection. I would try a different cable (standard RCA jack cables like the red, white, yellow for composite video work). Barring that it could be a bad RCA connector on either your DVD player or your TV. If you have another DVD player try that.

I stand corrected.... Not digital.

I have tried 2 different cables.... and I have used this set of input connectors for my cable to the tv (on the tv). So I know that set of connectors is fine.

I guess that leaves me with... a bad connector (perhaps) on the DVD player... a low end Toshiba about $90.

Unfortunately I would have to agree with that diagnosis. The only other thing to check is to try your cable box into the input on the TV you were plugging the DVD player into. This will make sure it's not the input on the TV as opposed to the output on the DVD player.

Anyway you have the dvd set to play only b&w ? I know I have to turn off my cable box, when I have my dvd player on, or the sound is messed up. maybe there is some type of conflict with the connections between 2 sources ?

just thoughts

Tim

.

I'm still working on this problem... I have now narrowed it down further. I have tried another DVD player and have gotten the same result.

I have also tried running my Hi-Def Cable connections into the HK635.... and back out, and into the TV. The result... All the channels play back in black & white.

The origanal DVD Black & White issue... I connected directly to the TV component input (not through the HK635 Audio Receiver). So it would seem that my TV is only acepting the direct connection of the Hi-Def cable.

Anything else I plug into the TV component inputs displays in Black & White... So it must be a problem with a setting on the TV. And I can't find the remote . . I've been using the cable remote for the last year.

is it s-video? s-video works on a chroma/luma signal and may be a bad connection or wire.

.

Thanks for help good people of the Corvette Forum

You guys where on the money... I switched cables around several times and I thought I had all the inputs tested by trial and error.

I guess I some how missed it... The problem is one of the two Component Input sets on the TV

Thanks again
