To me SPL numbers are not always fair as in how they are taken. I mean a sub will not produce much at all unless in some type of enclosure. Subs will produce different SPL in different boxes so even if they are all taken at 1 watt at 1 meter the results are not even. I think many low cost/low quality manufactures just make up chit to sell their equipment. Also, a higher SPL reading at 1W/1M does not mean it will get louder overall. Louder subs usually have a lower SPL at 1W/1M because of more mass in the cone to take the abuse.
IMO, your ears are the best measuring tool. If that isn't possible, go with a well known manufacturer. Once you narrow the sub choices down a bit just look up reviews on the net. Also, let us know your choices and you'll get plenty of feedbck
Well, the 3 I'm looking at are the ED Eu700, JL 6W0, and Mpyre 65x, going to mount in the rear storage boxes of the C6. The Eu700's specs for sealed box will fit perfectly. That is why I'm trying to determine which engineering specs determine the sq/tight kick of the sub. Some have said to look for subs with high qts and mms #s and low fs #s. Is that valid? Mid/woof is handled up front by DLS Iridium 6.5s. Active crossovers.
