I was talking to the audio installers at a well known retail chain (this should be good) and they said I can't just replace the speakers in the C5, because they are designed to work on 4 oms, and the bose system works on less than 2 oms. They said that if I do it I would blow the speakers?
From what I read in the sticky, I should be able to just replace the speakers with aftermarket speakers, right?
"They" are wrong. The 3.5" twiddler and the rear speakers (either 5.25" or 6.5" dependent on model) can be swapped out with no problems with aftermarket 4 ohm speakers. "They" are thinking of older Corvettes.
Many C5 owers have done the swap and are pleased with the results. I recommend doing the 3.5" first. Infinity and Alpine seem to be a popular choice.
I've been talking to the installers that did my Hummer for a couple months now about doing an install in the vette and what my options are. I have an Alpine CDA-9855 HU in the garage and and they told me that using that with a PAC adapter and upgrading the 3 1/2"s with a set of alpine's would be a big improvement. They have upgraded the twiddlers on a couple of cars by installing the 3 1/2" Alpines and said that it was a nice improvement. The new LT's drowning out your audio?
I am also replacing my speakers, but I want to go bigger than the 3.5 twiddlers, but since I am keeping my radio stock, is there a law a deminishing returns on the power handling and quality of speakers I put it with stock amp?

Anyone else have this concern?
you'd have to completely remove the bose speakers/assembly and get an amp and speaker combo if you want to do anything but replace the 3.5" twiddlers in the doors. you can keep the factory head unit though. you'll just need a soundgate or pac-audio bose interface.
