I've gotten Laser warnings here in Washington State and have even been able to see the 'shooter' a few times. But, sometimes, like this morning, they are standing by the side of the road, appear to be using a laser gun ('aiming' it at traffic) and I get no warning at all with my Passport 8500 X50
So, I'm wondering if anyone knows what they might be using that my detector is not picking up?
The Valentine One is the only radar/laser detector that will alert almost 100% of the time from any distance to every laser gun. The V1 detected laser 179 out of 180 times from 25-1000 feet while the X50 only detected laser 81 out of 180 times from 25-1000 feet.
Spoken like a person who has never owned a V1 before. Why do I need arrows, upgradeability, 2 antennas to detect radar and point an arrow at the worst threat, magnesium V1 instead of my plastic Escort...blah blah.
BUY A V1 AND THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND!!
Let me borrow yours and I'll make a decision. 2 antennas? Therefore there must me either two full receivers or a diversity switch that swithches between front antenna and rear. So each antenna is sensitive/on only 50% of the time, where the escort is sensitive 100% of the time, front and rear. Still , when you get an "instant on", do you first look at the arrows to see where it comes from or slow down?

Both antennas are 100% sensitive all of the time, it is like 2 radar detectors in one case. You should immediately slow down when instant-on radar hits you regardless of what detector you use.
The arrows are useful when you are cruising the highway or interstate at night and you can't visually see the cop. The arrows also let you know which one is the worst threat by flashing an arrow that way and they also let you know if the cop drove by on the other side of the interstate. They are also useful when a cop merges in behind you and you can't tell which direction the radar is coming from.
If you own any other detector besides a V1, you just drive around with a question mark in your mind.
I have seen a few K-40 installed and they do seem to work well. Very expensive and most of the radar tests I have seen don't do as well as the units mounted high on the windshield. Probably not an issue of their units, but of their mounting locations. As for laser jammers, deflectors, call them what you want.................their functioning is under some interesting debate not to mention the legallity. I am sure somebody will atest to the "fact" their laser jammer works 100% of the time, but where is their emperical evidence? Oh yeah, it only costs $39.95. I won't even get into the engineering of such a device. Save your money in my opinion, just remember many local law enforcement agencies are going to Lidar (not laser) which pretty much negates all these detectors anyway (both RF and Laser). Hey but remember, it's your money and your car, spend and drive as you wish!
........i just happen to be reading a few post here and have to respond...the v1 (which i have) and the others DO NOT JAM nor have the capability to do so!...they are only detectors!....
.....there are different devices for jamming laser from speed calculating laser guns....
.....as far as location of the radar detector, high in the windshield and not stuck in a grill some place will give better radar coverage and may "pick up" farther and for laser, low is the way to go as laser is aimed primarily at the front license plate area and the the headlights which are all LOW. mounting low for laser will give your laser/radar detector the ability to catch laser "splatter" from targeted cars ahead of you.....
