Maybe I missed something in the wiring or set-up menu but I can't get the DVD to show a picture on the screen. I have the DDX-7017 unit which is the indash unit. I can hear the movie, the screen displays the track/time and shows the play/stop buttons etc. Someone please staighten me out.
I'll check into that. Will it allow the unit to display while in motion? If not what is a way around that issue. I have an A4 if it matters.
it is supposed to be hooked up to the parking brake...when the parking brake is engaged, the wire is grounded, allowing you to see the movie. When you disengage the parking brake, the wire is not grounded anymore telling the deck that you are moving so it wont display any movies on the screen...
some decks (like kenwood) allow you to just ground the wire all the time so the unit always thinks you have the parking brake on...Alpines are a little more complicated...they require a sequence of foot on the brake, parking brake on...there are ways to get around this with a programable box that grounds the proper wires in the right sequence....
I have a Jensen double DIN dvd player in my truck. It requires a grounded wire for the video to work as well a sequence for that grounded wire.
They say to hook it to the parking brake and operate the sequence...as we all know, kinda hard to do that sequence while driving.
So.... I hooked my wire to a switch which is hooked to ground. For the Jensen, I have to flip the switch to ground for one second, then off for one second, and then back to ground indefinitely to watch the dvd. Works like a charm...I just toggle the switch on/off/on and enjoy.

or you could get a PAC TR-7 and program it to do the sequence for you for about $20...its what I did when I had my old Alpine...

I thought about that...but since the switch was about $4 and it takes all of 3 seconds (literally) to do the sequence, I just saved myself some lunch money.
I mounted the switches (one for the video and one for the backup camera) right on my dash in a factory looking spot. It is as easy to work the switches as it is to flip the turn signal lever. I'm happy with it.
But certainly, those auto sequencers are great for people that don't want to deal with it.
