Default illumination wire

I'm installing my new autometer gauges and trying to find a wire that will power the illumination of the gauges. I don't have a manual lying around and the last thing I want to do is spend hours climbing around my interior with a test light looking for the right wire. I did a search and alot of the guys in the stereo section have used the tan wire off of the "Climate Control Harness" as there source for power, which is what I will use if there isn't anything that is easier to access.

Any help/ Pics appreciated.

the c1 harness, which is the top one, has 10 pins with 8 wires.

the blk/wht one is clean ground

the orange one is 12v constant,
what i have done in the >30 systems that ive done is twist the illum. with the pwr because i like my radio display's as bright as they can be since the sun always washes it out. i even add the switched 12v wire into the mix if the head unit has a dedicated off button or removable face so it keeps from draining your battery and from having a bright colored button attracting thieves.

gray is negative and tan is positive for the front left

dk green is neg. and lt green is pos. for the front right

pink is the radio on signal(since the c5 has two antenna arrays in the back and front glass.---this i wires up to the corresponding head unit wire that turns on the radio.

as far as a seperate wire for the 12v switched, there is none in the wire harness' from the stock deck, you must either run it direct and install a switch or run it out of the fuse box or use one of the hvac wires (i think i used the cream colored one) or wire it into your ignition wire.

just for your info, the c2 wire harness which is the wire harness below c1 has 10 pins with 9 of them in use

the only ones of importance because most of the wires are used for the cd changer information and signal wires for the factory bose amps are the

lt blue
which is neg. and dk blue which is pos. for the rear right speakers.

yellow is the neg and brwn is pos. for the rear left.

The illumination wire on the HVAC controller is super tiny. When using it for stereo apps. it is just to trigger (not power) the ilumination circuit in the headunit which doesn't use any appreciable amount of current. I would be concerned about the amount of current draw from 2-3 incandecent bulbs on this tiny little wire.

You could find a constant power source from somewhere else and use the HVAC wire to trigger a relay. Or, try and tap into the parking light circuit either at the fuse box or in the harness. I don't know where these are, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.
