Default Other Radar Dectors besides Valentine 1?

I know that a lot of people love their Valentine 1 however my friends and I have different view on what comes in 2nd after Valentine 1. I would like to hear back from other people who have radar dectors besides Valentine 1. Thanks

I have an Escort 8500. I like it and it hasn't failed me yet - as long as you're not stupid. No radar detector will save you from getting popped by instant on radar - unless there are cars in front of you and you can pick up the radar shooting them (just ask my wife )

My friend has a V1. Sometimes one picks up signals the other one doesn't (but usually no cops around) when we are traveling together. We use 2-way radios and tell the others whenever one picks up a radar hit.

While we were travelling in CA his would pick up some sort of radar signal around road construction sites (no speed displays around).

I guess the arrows would be helpful but if I get a radar hit, I'm hitting the brakes no matter what.

I have both the 8500 and the V1.

If I couldn't have a V1 then I would definitely go with the 8500. Its a great detector it's only shortcomings are the lack of directional arrows and an easy to read bogey counter.

Though I have not tried them side by side, the V1 does seem to be a bit more prone to falsing in and around shopping mall parking lots and such. On the highway however it gives no false alarms and neither did the 8500.

I have never tried the 8500 near shopping malls, as I would only hook it up when heading to the highway.

But to answer your original question, if not the V1 then I would definitely go with the 8500.

Agreed. But the problem with just hitting your brakes is that they may be behind you. If the hit came from behind you, and you proceed for a few miles and see an oncoming patrol car, you might conclude that this car was the source of the hit and then speed back up when that patrol car passes you by in the opposite direction..

And when you do, the unmarked car which was behind you, and pacing you, zaps you again. The next sight you see is blue lights in your rearviw mirror coming up on you.

The V1 would have told you that the hit came from the rear and the car you actually saw coming in the other direction was not the source of the hit you heard.

Passport 8500 BLUE works great. Except the windshield mount kinda sucks.

V1 for sure.

I had a cop hiding behind a truck once just pacing me. When the V1 kept going off with the arrow showing behind me, I knew something was going on. Finally he just pulled out on his motorcycle and went speeding by me. The arrows saved me.

Another time I kept getting weak signals after passing some woman doing 30 mph in the left lane of a 45 mph zone. The arrow showed ahead so I braked, along with several others who followed me, and around the corner was the motorcycle cop with instant-on radar. Saved by the arrows again.

I don't want to be anywhere without the V1 in either car.

Now with POP mode detection, the Pro 73 will react fast enough to detect the new POP radar as well
as all other radar and laser in use today.

Whistler Pro 73 Features

POP Mode Detection
Two Year Warranty
Real Voice Alerts
Intense Blue Text Display
High Gain Optical Lens
Stay Alert Feature
Total Band Protection

New V1's have POP detection and you can upgrade the old ones for it too.

What is POP anyway?

I have a V1 and a Solo S2. The S2 is great and also battery powered. However, nothing beats the V1.

V1 hands down. Nothing compares. I have an older one and it has never failed.

mkiv808 - POP is the instant on/instant off radar shots at you.

Cops here have it. I've been nailed a couple times but never pulled over. So with POP detection you get a warning ahead of time?

Will be upgrading my V1 soon. I love that thing, it never goes obsolete (hopefully)!
