If I screw the amp directly to the body behind the the passenger seat in a C5, am I going to hit anything important?
I realize most people take the carpet up and then caulk a piece of MDF to the body then replace the carpet and screw the amp to the MDF, but I don't want to loose even more seat movement.
You will hit the gas tanks with no wood. It is not a good thing. Mounting amps behind the seat makes it so you can’t put the seat back all the way. You can no longer use the easy entry option because it will pile your seat into the amp. I would recommend mounting the amp(s) in the back.

Maybe some industrial strength velcro! I also thought about mounting the amps directly behind the seats, but my passengers usually are around 6' tall or more and they require all the leg room they can get, lol.
The amp also puts out some heat, and added to that coming in around the console may make a difference.Even so,I thought of putting mine there until I decided to go to two amps, the second a class D for the sub.We will be anxious to hear how it comes out!
