Help the newbie :willy: (not dialup friendly)
Here is my current setup
Eclipse CD3434 Head unit (50W x 4 channels of power amplification with MOSFET)
4x Pioneer TS-A6871R (3-way 6"x8" speakers fequency response: 30-28,000 Hz power range: 2-50 watts RMS (240 watts peak power))
Now while this provides me with some good sound i still wish to add a subwoofer. While of course keeping a tight budget.
As per my music tastes: 60% of the time its Rock 25% its hiphop and rap 15% of the time its Techno/dance music.
So i am basicaly looking for something that will give me an extra push. As well as not taking up a crap load of space in the car since its my dd and i use it to cart all sorts of things. For this i've found this one guys setup to be superb.

What concerns me is that i am unsure what size of the sub this is and if the guy truly has enough cubic feet to get a decent sound.
The space is 15x17x7inches which gives me just over 1 foot of cubic space if i were to do a sealed box.
So far i've done a little bit of looking for a cheap sub and i've come up with two i like. One is a 10 inch and the other is a 12 inch sub
The first is a MTX Thunder 4500 T4510-04
stats:
# ower range: 50-225 watts RMS
# peak power handling: 450 watts
# frequency response: 35-150 Hz
# sensitivity: 87.6 dB
# top-mount depth: 4-5/8"
# sealed box volume: 0.6-1.0 cubic feet
My question is that if i went with a .6 cubic feet box will that hinder the preformance of the sub vs of going with a 1.0 cuib feet box?
The second is a JVC CS-GD4300 12" (comes with an amp for 120 bucks from crutchfield)
stats:
frequency response: 30-2000 Hz
power range: 50-250 watts RMS (750 watts peak power)
sensitivity: 85 dB
top-mount depth: 5-3/4"
sealed box volume: 1.50 cubic feet
This is obviously larger in terms of cubic feet but, would it be better to go a bit larger and make a larger box of 15x17x8.5 inches?
so what would u guys do

Also, look at Bazooka powered tubes. They take a bit of space, yes, but they sound good in a small car.
Can't really help you with non-C5 stuff, but I can tell you that head units vastly exaggerate their power output. Your "50w x 4" is probably 19wrms into 4 ohms x 4 in reality. Caveat!
Good luck

EG
u rock I'll have to read more about this stuff
it seems like the SQ10 Subwoofer only needs 0.5cF for a sealed box which is awsome.
I am glad i asked here, no one over on the other forum has heard of em.
If you want even more output, you could step to their Ov.2 series which will handle more power. With your music selection of rock, rap, and hiphop....I would lean towards a 12" sub (the 13Kv.2 or 13Ov.2 from eD). That 12 will still be tight sounding if you stick to their recommended airspace (0.7-1.0 cu ft, 5.75" mounting depth) and get low for the rap/hip hop music. But a 10" sub will work for you too.
Some subs i have an option in getting a single 2 or a single 4 voice coil but i ahve no idea what it means.

The dual voic coil sub give you more wiring options but that doesnt mean those are the "right" subs for you. What you want to do is match the sub to the amp. Since you are using one sub here are some of your options.
If you plan on bridging a two channel amp I recommend a single 4 ohm voice coil or a dual 8 ohm coils. If you plan on using a single channel amp (which I recommend in your case) get a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub (wire coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load)
In the future, save $ for a 4-channel amp
Best wishes
In my truck, I have two DVC subs that are 2 ohm voice coils. I wired each sub in series creating a 4 ohm load per sub. I then run them parallel to the amp creating a 2 ohm load at the amp. My amp is a mono block amp.
It can take a little bit to understand impedance ratings, but just keep asking here. We'll help you out
Most of them i am looking at thanks to EG need around 400 to 500Wrms.
I found a few cheap $100 mono channel amps. Visonik V108XT and Profile HA700M
I would just like to keep the amp under $130 bucks i figure if i can get away with a sub and amp for 250 its a good deal.
