Default bose replacement--someone who KNOWS please answer

hello,

I'm replacing the bose head unit in my 1986 vette with an aftermarket unit.

i have the wiring harness and amplifier integration adaptor.

I have power, absolutely no sound.

I'm assuming, this is due to one of three wires coming from the car which had nothing to match up to in the harness...

one wire is brown in color and connected to the yellow clip which is used... I dont feel that is a problem, though, you may know better.

the other two are both a red wire which connected directly into the back of the original bose radio and a white wire surrounded with black insulation which also connected directly into the back of the original bose radio.

i'm also assuming this in some way supplies power to the bose amplifier in the system.

I would like someone who has done this to answer and tell me what to do please. I have searched and searched and found numerous people asking similar questions, only to be told to "check the faq", which the answers for theirs and my question were NOT there.

PLease, if you don't know what i'm talking about or have nothing constructive to say, please, DONT answer and DONT tell me to check the faq, the answer is not there. If it is provide a link.

This forum is absolutely cluttered with peoples questions being commented on with no true answer and searching the site is becoming useless.

thank you,

xxanity

I can not tell you the exact wire but I can tell you how to find the wire you need. From what you describe you are not turning the amplifiers on.

Here is what you do. Reconnect the factory head unit and test the wires you are not sure of using a VOM or a test light. VOM would be better. The wire will go 12v hot when the radio is on only. After you find the wire you can connect the ant or amp turn on wire to it and you should be good to go. If your radio has an amp turn on use that.

runnin out now to check. i'm doing this in the dark of night for what its worth.

i'm going out with my voltmeter noiw, and the old unit to be sure of which wire is which...

anyways, my new radio doesnt have an amp turn on, should i just put in a switch or can i run the amp line spliced into the 12v "red" line along with the ground into the "black" ground line, or direct to frame?

I've installed a few head units with zero problems in the past... this is upsetting me
