So the display went out on my old Pioneer receiver a while ago. Didn't know if it was because it was old or maybe there is a lose wire or fuse that might fix it again. The model # is VSX-4500S
here is a picture of it to the left of my computer. The system still works great i just can't see what i am doing. sometimes i just push buttons and hope i am doing what i am thinking i am doing.
i doubt they fused the vfd screen. if everything else seems like it's working then i would first check the voltage on the vfd screen. it should be getting 5 volts. if it uses the standard hitatchi control board then i may be able to help you with the pin-outs...but if not then you may be on your own.
Potential workaround... if it's a receiver that's been made in the last 10 years it likely puts it's menus on screen from it's video output, either on the composite (yellow) or the s-video. You can plug it into a port on a TV or monitor and at least be able to access the menu when you need it.

I have a feeling it is close if not more then 10 years old. It has been my familys for a while and they wheren't using it so i hocked it up to my computer. The screen worked and then all of a sudden poof it didn't anymore. like something burnt out or broke.
