Default 6X9 in a C5 door? any problem?

I'm starting to narrow down what I want in my 99 coupe. Any problem with a 6X9 in the c5 doors? Any clearance problems? Is it impossible to run the factory changer with aftermarket HU? Who has door speaker adapters for sale? Thanks to all

Jeff

There should be no clearance issues since the stock speaker is an 8. Keep in mind, there really isn't a 6x9 on the market that sounds good. All of them have 'off' sounding bass.

A 6.5 component set would be much better.

Unless you just want loud, 6x9s are good at loud.

Good point...will a component 6.5 be a full range set up or a mid bass and up?

The 6 x 9 is a good source for getting full range sound. If you want what is referred to hi-fi or SQ, then look into 6 1/2 components (6 1/2 woofer w/1" dome tweeter and passive x-overs 12db or 18db /octave), but only if you are adding an amplifier. Doesn't have to be a big amp, just one with more power and a low s/n ratio than the stock setup.

A halfway decent 6.5 set will give you a solid 70-20khz.

70hz is a bit low for most 6.5's to play loud IMO and has been my experience in tuning cars unless you do a fair amount of deadening and have 24db crossovers available for your use. This is of course if you like LOUD ... I personally like loud and clean/clear so take it for what its worth.

Most 6.5's will play 80hz pretty clean/clear and accurately without distorting or getting muddy.

I'm going to be using a nice Apline amp in the car. What do you mean or can you help me understand the different db crossovers mentioned above. Is there such a thing as a 8" component system. I looked at cruchfield and did not find any. I've alway liked the sound of polk speakers.

well you can maybe go with a 3way component system? go with ed's EU-700: http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=33

and a nice 2way component such as ed line:

combine these 2 and you can have a nice 3 way system

here's some good info on crossovers...

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/educatio...ersFilters.cfm

Most component speakers do come with these crossovers already.

Those look like CDT built speakers. If so,

looks like they're still using CDT parts though, very recognizable tweeters and crossovers.

I have done it. It depends on what type of music you listen to. I listen to mostly rock and they were definately loud enough and clear enough for me.
