after reading a lot of the threads in this audio forum....i am still lost, and getting quite frustrated with the response i get from most if not all of the sound shops i have taken my 94 coupe to get my sound system fixed. i bought the car and it has an aftermarket kenwood in it, and some sort of amp unit behind the seats, under the deck. at present, the am side does not work on the head unit, and it swallowed my favorite cd the other day and kept it. i get sound only from the right rear speaker. i purchased an oem delco/cd unit for it and no one seems to want to do the job. is there a way of getting the system up and running with the new delco/cd unit? if so how? i would appreciate any responses.
this is a mess of epic proportions just waiting to get cranked up.
Check the RPO sticker and find out what system your car came with, if it's U1F, its bose, and you need to stop right there.
If it's bose, you will need either adaptors or bose speakers to make it work.
Personally, I would stick with after market... Get a new head, amp and speakers and be done with it. Sure, the GM head does fit the car well, but it sounds like **** and is horribly unreliable.

Andy's right, don't go backwards. I would check the wiring to the speakers and the HU. Make sure every thing is nice and tight, It sounds like it was just a FU install, I would check that first.

I'm assuming you bought a stock corvette 94-96 head unit and nothing else. Also assuming that all the stock wiring is still there and not hacked up.
Step 1 - see if your car still has the CDM/radio receiver in it, and if so, if it is a Bose or non-Bose CDM. If it is a Bose CDM or you have no CDM, then you need to purchase a non-Bose CDM.
Step 2 - find out what kind of inputs your aftermarket amp takes. If it can handle 5V inputs, then run the speaker outputs from the CDM into it. If it can't, then add a LOC.
Step 2b - or, if you prefer to remove the amp, just run the speaker outputs from the CDM straight to your aftermarket speakers.
i suspect that all of the system now is non bose. so i am trying to put in a delco/cd head unit that is a bose unit, what kind of adapters do i need? i suppose these are located between the head unit and the speakers?

the factory bose speakers are amplified (the actual amplifier is in the speaker mount/assembly. Since you have aftermarket amplifiers, then most likely you have after market speakers. There are many ways to go from here.
1. Do you have the wiring harness for the radio that you bought? If so, I can send you links to sites that have the pinouts for the radio. You will need Front/Rear/Left/Right signals plus a common ground. You will also need a way to turn on the aftermarket amplifiers.
2. Need to find out what this is connected to " sort of amp unit behind the seats, under the deck"
It would be a lot easier to go with an aftermarket head unit. Putting the a factory bose unit in there is going to be lots of work (wiring/soldering) and probably will not sound as good.
I assume you mean "aftermarket" rather than "non-Bose"
The fact that you have an aftermarket stereo doesn't tell us if the CDM and factory wiring are still there.

See my previous post. And read the FAQ and the FSM so you have some basic understanding of the system.

There are no such outputs from the late C4 head unit. You need the CDM.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the head unit won't do _anything_ without the CDM.
