Well .. hate to say it but in the IB (freeair) application I was quite unimpressed and pretty disappointed. Unless I happen to have gotten a broken speaker (have 2 only tried the 1 since I was kinda pissed) it would only take 60% power from the headunit before it would pop/distort noticeably. By contrast my Focal polykevlar 7" does not miss a beat at 90% volume in the same exact application. The Focal 7" outperformed the eu700 noticeably at every range above 63hz (crossover is 24db at 63hz to 315hz 24db). The lower notes were definitely handled (read sub range) better by the eu700 but the midbass was far tighter and more accurate with the Focal.
In its defense it will play lower .. into the upper 40hz range pretty easily at lower volume but I feel it definitely needs an enclosure to really perform how it should. There are a lot of designs at the ED site that look nice both sealed and vented. If you can take the time to completely guarantee that your doors are sealed I do believe that they will work well as front "subs/midbass" drivers but without that guarantee I can only say play at your own risk. I made some effort on sealing the doors but I know that I still leak a bit of air from behind the door pull area.
I will give them another shot in a week or two just to confirm that I do not have a blown/damaged speaker .. the other one still resides in its box sealed up. If you are serious about your frequency range and your midbass performance I think these would be great in a small fiberglassed enclosure in the doors.
how much are you powering them with? i heard they need a lot of power and they need to be x-overed for either mid-bass or bass. it sound like you are low-passing them and not bandpassing them.
They were getting at least 70 watts .. I need to check what my amp puts out at 2 ohms I am almost certain that the 70w is at 4 ohms.
I had them bandpassed varying between 50 and 63hz on the bottom from 6-24db rolloff and always at 315hz at 24db.
I just think that they are touchy in IB and care needs to be taken to make sure that the sound waves are seperated completely. Better suited to enclosures. This may all be for naught however if I find I just got a feked speaker, I will know in a week or two.
Where was this write up early this week before I bought mine?????? But then again, these are $45 bucks a piece. I think the Focal are just a bit more....
Time for a dynamat enclosure for the doors....
i saw a link; i think in the diymobile audio forum, where someone made a custom fg enclosure in his door. I totally sealed off the back of my door from the front, i'll have 150wrms, and it will only run bandpass for midbass...so hopefully i will see some better results...hell, if not it's just another excuse to mod again!
Ya I saw that video too .. crazy. I really did not mean to hate on them .. I just think that in IB (where basically all woofers struggle to truly perform) they were a bit disappointing.
Again I need to mess around with the other driver to make sure both are working correctly and I did not get a bad driver from the outset. I will let you guys know.
Awesome install and paint....but just because it has 32 6.5 inch drivers doesn't mean sounds good. I compare to this, would you rather have 4 shiney diamonds or 32 pieces of coal. I'm willing to bet that 4 JL Audio 13W7s would sound better and would be about the same SPL.
Also, did you notice his first box? It seems way to big for the Infinitys

yeah with so many drivers i wonder if there are some deadspots and what not. that was a concern of mine when i was going to put 4 eu's in my trunk...dont have to worry about that now that i'm back to a single 12 though.

You got that right, the view is awesome .
Right now I debating on wether to put two 18W6's in the back of my 4X4 S15 Jimmy. Currrently, I have one 12" in the SUV which does a great job for how cheap it was. But, I have four 18W6s and four JBL 1200.1s sitting around collecting dust (amoungst a chit load of other audio componets). Plus, I still have the box from my red Talon TsiAWD that had the two 18"s. Another plus, the extra 100+ lbs will get me more traction in the winter. I would have to recover the box which is no problem and I would probably would even cover the 18"s so theives could not see them. That is my biggest hurdle, the fear of theive stealing the set-up. I already lost a JBL 1200.1, four JL 15W5s, and misc other stereo equipment to theives in that truck
almost everything eD has not really impressed me, and from their past history of failures and more and more from their current line ups, I will not touch anything from them....
For a decent midbass, check out the Dayton Reference series available at parts express. They now have unshielded 4 ohm versions, instead of the 8 ohm ones.
