I'm planning to get a Garmin GPS unit this next spring and am trying to figure out a way to mount it in the C4. Seems like if I just use the suction cup to the windshield I'm going to lose a lot of visibility out front. I'm sure not going to glue anything to the dash! Does anyone have a creative way of mounting one? I was thinking of somehow utilizing the cup holders in the console to hold a plexiglass plate or something and then sticking it to that. I don't want to build it in in any premanent manner as I want to move it from car to car. Any ideas?

Mount mine by the A piller, there it blocks just a bit of the driver side fender but I still have full visibilty of the road.
Buy a map and store it in the glove box instead. Do you really need to know where you are within 3 feet of any point on the Earth?
It's not just knowing where you are, I can be anyplace along a trip almost out of gas punch in gas station and it will list 10 of them closest one first. Or if I am hungry restaurant and I get a nice list with phone numbers. One memorable time I was close to home but wanted to get a birthday cake at a particular bakery I had never been to. Got the name from a friend, looked it up on the GPS, called the number and placed the order then went and got it. Worked out great for me. PS if you are in the market for a really great rum soaked cake Corbos Bakery in Cleveland has the best. The GPS is well worth a few hundred bucks to me.
I use my Pocket PC and a combination of both Tom Tom and Mapopolis. I just let mine sit in the cupholder though. I will eventually get around to getting a bracket for it. The under the dash pad looks decent.
I was going to try and do something coming up from the passenger side that would bend around and sit over the cup holder area so its stationary, higher up and out of the way of the shifter.
I've got a Garmin MapQuest and the suction cup mount does not block my vision in any way. During a trip to Tenn from MD it was interesting to play with and discover a 2 mph error on the speedometer. Might have saved me a ticket too!

I guess I always just plan ahead and know where I am going. The Interstates are clearly marked as to where Gas Food Lodging can be found (although in Wyoming, the signs are all lying).
I have a Garmin 376C that I bought for use on my boat, but you can also put an automotive chip in it so I use it in my vehicles too. Garmin sells an auto kit for use with several of it's models on their website. I bought the auto kit for mine and it included a bracket mounted on a small sand bag to sit on your dash. It holds it well and is a great solution for a temporary use so as to switch from car to car.
Also, there is a company called RAM Mfg that manufactures several different mounts for all brands of GPS's. Most of them are suction cup mounts. I purchased mine at a Bass Pro Shop in Fort Lauderdale and use it in the boat. It has never fallen off of the windshield, even after 5 days of steady use on the Ocean.
