I'm trying to decide which way to go. I don't really need an IPOD or portable player for anything other than storing music and I can live with 750mb of songs per disc.
What's the least expensive way to go? I'm thinking an aftermarket HU with mp3 capability, but don't know what else I need to get it to work with the factory Bose and my amp and sub I already have hooked up.
Will I need anything else or will I have to get an aftermarket amp to run the Bose too and end up spending more?
what year corvette and (if it's a c5) do you have a factory cd changer?
if you have a factory cd changer then the ipod will probably be about the same amount as a aftermarket head unit, bose interface, and mounting kit. if you don't then the ipod will be a little more because you have to purchase and aux input adapter for the head unit.
just looked at your pics...nice car...i guess it is a c5
Thanks!
Yes, C5Z with no cd changer. I've read up on this and I know i'll have to shell out about $60-$100 for two harnesses and hopefully find a player for around $100. I really want the ability to use the HU to control tracks and seeking and don't want to have to fumble with the small display of any mp3 player. So, that is why i'm leaning towards a HU, but I don't want to have pay more for install and 3.5's in the doors.
Is this right? Can I use the power of the aftermarket HU for the upgraded tweets with the door subs running off my sub amp out back? I know the door subs have a weird ohm. Can they be run off the aftermarket HU too?
the 3.5" can be headunit powered. the door subs can only be powered by the bose amp that powers them now. if you get an aftermarket head unit and keep the bose speakers you'll need the bose interface.

What does the interface do? It lets you retain power to the Bose speakers on the Bose amp running an aftermarket head unit?
So you're saying, aftermarket HU powering aftermarket 3.5's and use Bose interface to let Bose amp power door subs and all will be good?
