I just received an NCR stealth sub box for my 2004 convertible. For those of you that have the stealth style sub boxes, is there a muffling of the sound when the center cover is on? If so, is it significant enough to modify the cover? I'm concerned with the sound quality with the center cover sitting directly on top of the sub.
If you did modify the center cover, can you post pictures so I can get some ideas?
I have a "factory" cover that matches but I built a 1" raised cover that is vented over the top of the sub and carpeted to be in the ballpark from a matching standpoint. And I loose some output. I also have a partition which further cuts down the bass, but I daily drive my z and it is worth it to me (and I am a big audio guy)
I equate it to the loss of about 20% total output with the cover and partition in place. I know that when I uncover it and pull the partition down it hits noticeably harder.
My Vert is a daily driver as well, that is why I went with the stealth box. Not enough trunk space as it is. I didn't want to give up another 12" circle of valuable trunk space!
I'm going to look at some options to open up the cover. I thought about drilling a series of holes, that don't go through the carpet, to provide some air release. Any thoughts on that idea?
If you are going to make the effort to vent it, I would either buy a basic grill cover for it or if you want to drill the holes cover it with acoustic cloth, or grill cloth IMO. I am in the process of changing my cover to do just that.

i dont think that drilling into the factory cover is going to be enough air release when you dont drill through the carpet. the carpet is pretty dense and it probably wont make much difference. try what fej has suggested.

One of the options I was considering was cutting the cover on both sides of the metal support and putting some sort of grill over the opening so the cover is still stable enough for cargo. The acoustic or grill cloth is a good suggestion.
Please post pics of yours when you are done, I would be interested in seeing it!!
