the other wire is usually folded, so you have to look really good.
Look ion the Tech Tips for a solution if you cannot find the 3 pin plug. I ripped my car apart pretty good and never found it, so I came up with a way to get by without it. Just splice into the same wires on the 20 pin connector in the back of the radio.
The one plug that is hidden was actually taped up against another harness in my 04 Z, a PITA to locate unless you know exactly what you're looking for
The plug itself (again in mine) was tucked out of the way in the far right hand passenger panel.
Here are some pics that I took while doing my iPod install:
In the pic below, that taped harness you see, the wiring for the plug that you're looking for was taped up against it (feel for loose electrical tape, it should easily unravel once you figure it out ); on the right side, see the carpeting and where the taped harness goes, my plug was tucked in that area
Let me know if I can help you further...I believe there is a diagram in the FAQ somewhere...
thanks larry i will go and look again. i felt all over the harness and just didnt feel it. the 4 pin was in the same place as yours though. i will post back what i do or dont find
its just not there, will take you up on help pentavolvo.i read the tech tip but couldnt get any pics from the link mentioned. would really appreciate your help. thanks
On the back of the radio are several connectors - you
want to find the big one with 20 pins on it.
At one end of the connector you will see a gray wire -
this is pin 1> You don't need this - it's just a
reference. On the other end of the same row of pins is
an orange wire - this is the "hot lead" and you want
to splice into this one for power. On the same row,
towards the middle, you will see a black wire with a
white stripe. This is a ground, and you want to splice
into this one too.
Finally, go to the other row, which you can identify
by its having a brown wire at one end and a brown wire
with a white stripe at the other end. In the middle of
this row will be a dark green wire - this is pin 15,
and it is a signal wire that tells the radio that a CD
changer is hooked up to it and running. Splice into
this one and you're done at the radio connector. I
used a small razor knife to strip away some of the
insulation on the connector wires, then wrapped some
of my wire around it and soldered and taped it. I tie
wrapped the 3 wires together and ran them thru the
underside of the dash and into the passenger footwell.
I think they were about 3 1/2 feet long, but go longer
than that if you wish and cut off what you don't need.
It's all actually pretty easy to do. If you need
anything else, just give a holler. Hope this helps.
