Default [C4]Front Stage Sepaker Position questions

Okay,

I got my CDT 4" today, the EF system is delayed I should have it next week.

Anyway, I have a 6.5" driver I was using for a mock up.

I might be able to fit both my midbass and my 4" in the door.

Currently the Midbass is in the door but my 4" and tweeter are in the Frame Rail, but due to me switching to the 1991 interior the frame rail has much less room (90-newer got an indent) I am also NOT CUTTING IT. C4s are flexible enough without my help.. LOL.

Anyway it looks like I might get the 4" on axis, but the midbass (~80hz to 500hz) might be off axis.

The midbss will be mounted forward in the door, towards the firewall, but also sort of under the dash in a sense. the 4" will be mounted closer to the driver. This will also give me the chance to mount the tweeters in the door as well. My main reason for doing this is so legs will not block my front stage.

The other thought is leave the modbass in the door and mount the tweeter and 4" in the framerail as it is now and hope for the best as far as legs blocking the sound. It does sound good coming from the floor and my midbass are currently off axis too.

Lastly I could just do the EF-61 2-way ( but upgrade the crossovers)

what do you think?

Off axis in the midbass frequency range is not really that bad. Some of your vocals will come from the upper portion of that range but your mid will handle a fair portion of it helping it to "raise" the imaging a bit.

Cars are always a compromise between imaging and realistic listening positions/functionality. Do what sounds best to you as long as it fits into your level of effort/mod'n.

Hey, Jeff, I did suggest cutting and rewelding new metal in!

I will have to put some brain power to this problem... You are not going to mount the 4" any higher on the door than the 6" already is... that's a given, the door panel tapers off way too much.

If you can put the 4" beside the 6", that might work...

Yes I can put them next to each other.. Passenger side will be a bit different from the driver side,,

Bogus, I know you suggested cutting and welding, hence the reason for my comment about it

I was reading an old issue of CA&E (April 1993) they did a 92 vette and funneled the audio from the speaker into the car in the door (no pictures of course) I think I have a good Idea for the two in the doors, but I am wondering if it will sound better then them being in the floor like they are now??

I don't really want to do a bunch of wrok and cutting of the doors to find out it will sound worse.. I would think it would sound better.. I would keep the 6.5" off axis and the 4" in axis the best I could.
