Default C6 Antenna Wire

My AVIC-D1 does not pick up radio stations that well. Stereo signal will fade in and out. I don't have any type of bus adapter installed, the head unit is spliced into the output wires that would be coming out of the Bose amp if there was one there. While I have the antenna adapter and have the antenna plugged into the AVIC I'm wondering if the stock antenna needs to be powered and since I'm not utilizing the stock harness it doesn't work as well or at all. Nothing is mentioned in any of the aftermarket HU install writeups.

Yes, there is an antenna module that needs to be triggered. There was a thread about this a number of months back.. looks like a solution was found.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1490988

That thread wouldn't have been very easy to find, but I knew I had posted in it so I did a search on my own posts.

Why are you splicing the AVIC into the Bose amp wiring harness? Why not do the job right and get the correct databuss adapter and plug it into the stock harness behind the stereo? That will solve all of your problems right there, without any splicing needed.

As I recall... the previous owner of Bill's C6 had hacked up the stock stereo pretty good, Bose amp is gone. The factory harness wouldn't get him anywhere, so now he's just pushing his speakers with the AVIC's built-in amps. He was looking for functional & decent, not nuts like most of us go for.

What he said. I am thinking that I may still get the data bus adapter and plug it into the factory stereo harness to get my RAP and dings back. Perhaps this may also power the antenna too.

Awesome Komoman! I think you actually solved two things for me! Towards the bottom of the page in that thread C6VetteRocks gives the pinouts for the antenna enabler but he also mentions that connector C1 pin B3 enables the antenna module as well as the Bose amp (non existant in my car) and also the self powered Bose subs! If I feed this connection 12V my in door subs may work!

You may get the sub amps to turn on, but somewhere you have to get a signal to them as well. The signal to be amplified comes out of the Bose amp so if you can dig up those output wires and maybe tie them into the sub out of your AVIC that might work.

So I'm halfway through the installation of my 6.5"s and speaker mounts and I remembered about this thread and the antenna/sub amp wire. So I find it in the harness where the Bose amp would be and give the white wire 12V and WOW! It looks like the previous installer of the old AVIC-N1 put the speaker wires for the subs and 3.5"s in parallel to the front channels. They had also already run a new wire to the left rear speaker to make the rear speakers stereo. I faded left to right and call me crazy but IMO the stock subs and3.5"s had similar treble and way better bass than the 6.5" Kenwoods. It sounds pretty damn good IMO!

I did install the 3.5" Kenwood Excelons in the rear but they don't make much of a difference. So I will have a set of slightly used Kenwood 6.5" coax's and speaker mounts for sale very soon.

So the antenna module is now powered as well but I don't have the 5V going to the FM modulator so I don't know if it will make much if any difference. If not I'll supply it 5V.

I'm super happy that the 10" subs are working now! I was not expecting this thread to solve all my audio problems. Thanks to Komoman for pointing me at that thread and to everyone else who has given advice and pointers on my Avic install and speaker issues and written writeups (Nomad, Audio Dave and Komoman) . This audio forum has been a huge help!

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!
