Default Need help w/C4 Bose Problem

My 1996 has the Bose Gold w/CD. I periodically hear noise from the (I think) right front speaker - it's sort of a crackle/static noise and the sound does not cut out when this happens. It's like noise between stations on AM, only on FM. The second thing is that every once in a while (3-4 times a week maybe) the volume jumps extremely high - blasts you out and I like my rock loud! I turn down the volume, then, after 20-30 seconds, the volume drops back down and I have to turn it back up. As far as I know, nothing has ever been done to the stereo. Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions.

Don't know. Sounds like the Car sterio salesman is visiting you periodically.

92TripleBlack, I retired from the Navy eleven years ago. I don't know what to do about this stereo problem. It just started and when the volume goes up, I mean it is as loud as turning the volume **** all the way instantly. Then, it goes back to "normal" after a couple of seconds. I'm at a complete loss. I don't want to pay for repairs I don't need either.

It sounds like there is a short in the volume control. It would probably need to be replaced. There is someone on the forum who has a shop that fixes these. I'm sure he'll post with some helpful info. I used to install aftermarket so I you decide to replace I can help. Otherwise, you'll probably have to either A: Fix yourself. It might be easy if you can get the parts and info.
B: Have it fixed. Usually takes $100 and 6 weeks no matter what you get done.
C: Buy a used unit from someone who is upgrading. You should be able to get a good deal on one.
Wish I could help more. You Navy guys are tops in my book. My buddy just retired from Nuke Design in Crystal City, VA. He was able to get me on a Friends and Family cruise on the Big E. They had Mach Flybys, let us stand on the deck for launches and landings, and dropped 1000 pounders off the port side. All I can say is it rocked.
Good luck and let me know if I can help.

92TrippleBlack, thanks a lot. I will look into sending the head unit out to be checked and serviced. I guess that's as good a starting point as any.
