Default Which C5 front & rear speakers??

I currently have the carpet out of my 2002 Z06 getting ready to install crazycowboy's sound proofing kit. While I have everything out I want to redo the speaker system. I have already purchased a 12 Rockford fosgate sub purchased from EG -Grond, and a Rockford Fosgate 500X amp. For the headunit I will go with Pioneer Avic N3 using the humount bracket. I need to know what you recommend for decent front and rear speakers. Looking for the middle of the road speaker that isn't going to cost me a bank to buy avoiding install hassles- something good but simple. I have some left over brownbread that I will use for sound mat.

Also any recommendations on where and what speaker wire to buy? Thanks in advance. Chad

are you interested in going to a component system up front. or just replacing the stock 3.5 inch speaker and the rear speaker. If you go with a simple 2 way system up front, you can ditch the rear speakers and just buy a small amp to match the speakers up front.

As far as wire, i would go with knukonceptz.com wiring. i've used several of their kits and rca's. i like them a lot and the prices are good.

you can buy a good 2way component system for $150 and ditching the rears would save you some money for wiring and for an amp for the fronts.

i went with the cdt cl-61a's. im very happy with them.

depending on what speaker you go with will dictate what amp you choose.

if you are going with an amped system then i suggest cdt's or elemental designs' for a good 6.5" component speaker; and like dpg said, drop the rear speakers

if you are going unamped i'd look into some 6.5" coaxials maybe infinity, boston's, jl-audio, or polks. i dont have much experience with those so the best bet is to go to your local car stereo shop and have alisten to a few.

Guys thanks with help. I'm not a huge audio guru so I going to be looking to the forum for much needed help.
1) Is it possible to power the 12 sub and front speakers with the 500X 4way amp?
2) How much better do the component systems sound over the standards? Would I have any install problems- one vs. the other? Thanks Chad

Is the sub a dual voice coil? You may be able to bridge the rear channels to make a 3 channel amp and run the whole system with that.

Having dedicated drivers for the high, mid, and low range of frequencies will sound better, but only if you use the proper x-overs and amplification.

Looks like you have the amp and sub, so go ahead and invest on component speakers for the doors.

Don't worry, once you start, you'll never stop, no matter how good it sounds.

What the differnece between the 61a's and 61t's? Also I would really like to keep the rears? Why is everyone so against the rears? What do you suggest for the rears? Thanks Chad

the t's are 'titanium' tweeters and the a's are silk tweets. i prefer the silk, they aren't as harsh to me. and that 4 chan amp can power everything as long as your sub is either a 'dual voice coil (dvc) 2 ohm sub' or a single voice coil 4 ohm sub. EG should be able to chime in on this one.

they sound a lot better. they use better components on the crossovers networks (improved sound), they can take more power (more power doesn't only mean louder but more importantly clearer at listening levels), gives you mounting options to aim the speakers independently, and some other things i can't think of right now. how much more difficult to install? well it depends. it's that much more difficult. you ahve to find a place to mount the external crossover and then figure out where you want to mount the tweeter (options are: in the a-pillar, in the stock location, in the door pull, or if you're daring...in the door itself). it's really not that much harder.

I ordered the CDT CL-61a's for the front and CDT CL-5EX for the rears.
For the front components would I be better off just buy Audio Daves door speaker kit or can I work everything with the factory spots? Thanks

once you have the doors apart, you'll see how easy it is. You can just make your own speaker mounts if you have something as simple as a dremel. You can trace the bose front speaker assembly and cut it out on 1/4 inch mdf. The reason people ditch the rears is because of how small the vette interior is and that the sound stage should be coming from the front. People ditch the rears and save that money, or put it into better front speakers, wiring, etc. It is entirely up to you.

i think you have everything. just run your rear coaxials off of the head unit's internal amp and the rest off the fosgate 4 chan and you'll be good to go.

Thanks scott_fx- I don't think I can afford too much more! I thought I should be almost good to go. I'm not looking to win any audio competitions, just want something that has a solid thump and sounds better than the bose.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
