The Lilliputs are popular with the car pc crowd. You'll find a lot of info on them in the forums at www.mp3car.com. Almost everyone there uses either a Lilliput or a Xenarc. Xenarc's are supposed to have better picture quality but are considerably more than the Lillputs.
From what I've read, both have issues with readablity in direct sun light. mp3car.com sells modified Lilliput touchscreen LCDs with custom transrelective displays that are sunlight readable http://store.mp3car.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=82, but they cost almost $700. I'd like to do the car pc sometime, but I'm waiting for the display offerings to improve.

lilliputs are pretty good consumer grade screens. i opted for a xenarc becuase i read the build quality is better but when comparing the two they both do a good job for a 7" screen. sunlight readable is tough, it was hard to read my xenarc in direct sunlight with the top down (i upgraded to a transreflective xenarc so that isn't an issue any more) but the liliput's, from what i remember are supposed to be a little bit brighter i.e. easier to read during the day.
I have yet to see an LCD that isn't somehow screwed by direct light or polarized sunglasses...
i could look at it this way.... i lost my polarized sunglasses and my windows are tinted so that should help right?
i wish i could take the plunge right now, but i have to get some things fixed before i do. My o2 sims took a crap again, so i have to get them tuned out this time and might as well get the car tuned too. ive already got headers and an intake, so it will help. but it was an unplanned thing, so this is takin a back seat for now. Just browsing right now to see whats available because i know how much you guys like the xenarc screens

have you viewed a transreflective screen? this actually uses sunilight to brighten the image (reflective) as well as using a backlit source light for the times when there is no sunlight. i think the original blackberry pda's had this.
hey dpg... if i had to do it over again i'd probably go with the lilli over the xenarc. i dont think there is much of an advantage besides the xenarc automatically will switch to a video input when it detects a signal from the rca. (useful if using a reverse cam)
thanks for the little tidbit, it will be good to know when the time comes. im just keepin an eye out lately for screens so that if a deal comes along i can be prepared. I want a carputer next and i will get the ball rolling eventually.
keep an eye out on the mp3car.com for sale section. you can usually get a full rig pretty cheap. i want to say that my roommate got a screen (flipout) and computer for about $500-600. you can usually get a full computer for ~$300
not this summer, but im hoping by next summer. I will definitly be picking your brain and resources scott when the time comes. i'll probably start collecting parts after the summer.
sounds good. my roommate may be experimenting with the dac but i think he want's to go with 5.1 so this dac won't work for him. regardless i can probably get it to you for like $50 if you wanted it... oh and it has unbalance and balanced signals if you needed them :-)
