Is an aftermarket stereo that much better then the stock, 6 disc system in the 07? I think my stereo sounds excellent for stock. I had thought about putting in an AVIC Z1 or the new Clarion unit, but right now all I want to do is add an Ipod interface. Did they change the stereo or speakers between 05, 06 and 07?

There was a statement made that the Bose system was "improved" for '07. But I have done work on my '06 and my buddy's '07 and the ONLY difference I can discern is the rear speakers played louder. I think they made a software change in the amp to do this. From an electronics perspective (i.e. adding an iPod interface, etc) all the model years of the C6 are identical, so far anyway.
I have an 07 too and I agree that the Bose system as it is sounds good to me - coming from a monsoon in my 99 TA, the sound is cleaner and clearer, but the sound stage is certainly in front of you instead of all around you - that took some getting used to. I just want to find a good way to hook up an ipod, but so far no dice.
If it sounds good to you don't bother changing anything.
That being said, I'm not happy with the stock Bose system in my 2007 and it's coming out this weekend. Even an entry level aftermarket system is going to sound significantly better than the Bose. If you're looking for a cost effective upgrade, just start with swapping out the speakers.
