I currently have a Ken Harrison Enterprises model KHE-200 head unit in my 1967. It is rated at 50W x 4. I do not use the cassette player but rather an IPod Shuffle connected via the AUX jacks.
The head unit drives a Kenwood dual-cone dash speaker with each 4" one-way cone at 50W peak. Of course I do not get stereo separation but the sound is not bad.
In the spring I will be adding kick panel units to get four channels. The speakers are Kenwood 4" two-way (KFC-1060S) rated at 120W peak.
The question is: Will I need an amplifier when I add the kick panel speakers?
Thats really not alot of power at all what are the specs on your radio... with that said most aftermarket radios put out about 20 watts rms just to give you an idea so id assume yours is close. Are you going with those speakers for sure. Im only saying this because its not really gonna get that loud especially in a C2 which is a loud car id say
in short; will you need an amp, no. could you benefit from an amp, of course. the amp will give you more headroom meaning less distortion meaning more power for the speakers (they can handle more then the 20 wrms that they are spec'd at, but it has to be clean; aka undistorted, power)
Stock exhaust. Quiet as an Impala. Looks like I try the system as is in the spring. I don't like the thought of adding an amplifier to an electrical system with an original 37-amp alternator.
