Default Stereo for 1990 Convertible

OK, my 1990 had a Blaupunkt H/U already installed when I bought it. Overall, the system sounds like absolute crap. I don't know if the Bose amps are blown or what, but it is muddy, bbomy and not loud enough to hear over the wind/exhaust. I'd like to replace everything and was looking for suggestions on speaker sizes and brands, wiring instructions and any other tips. Links to other threads are fine, but personal advice is always appreciated... Ben

I forgot to mention that the car had the Bose "Gold" if that makes a difference. I'd also like to keep a reasonable budget if possible... Thanks!

Define reasonable, i.e. what is your budget ? There are literally tons of recommendations posted here along with what folks have done with their cars. I personally spent about 900 and have a nice setup and am very happy with it.

I'd gladly spend $900 for decent sound. How about we round to $1000? I listen to mostly rock/techno, so no need for a huge sub. I was thinking maybe some nice components(4"? 5 1/4"?) in the kick panels and decent 6 1/2"s in back, or maybe a 8-10" sub in a small box. Any ideas would be great!

You can put two eights in the factory location in the back of the vert, thats what i did. I also put 6.5 comps in the front sills. All this is powered by a JL 300/4. PM if you need pictures etc.

Not to be ignorant, but have you checked out the C4 Audio FAQ? It will help you make the choices needed here.

That's not being ignorant...people miss the stickies all the time. I did read that and it gave me some good general ideas, but I was hoping for details. Especially since the 'vert poses some challenges vs. the coupe...

I just recently finished the install in my '94 Coupe. The main difference I can see from an installation point of view is the mounting of the rear speakers and amp.

I've got right at $1000 in mine, and it sounds fantastic. Here's what I used:

Deck: Alpine CDA-9856
Front speakers: Polk db5250 5-1/4" components w/ 1" tweeters and crossovers
Rear speakers: JBL GTO804 8" subs
Amp: Rockford Fosgate P450.4

Here's my thread. Link to my install

Anyone lookin for a powerful 4 channel amp there are some old of the previous model kickers on ebay. More aless a differnt case then the new ones specifically this model http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KICKE...spagenameZWDVW the kx650.4 it would rock some components and a sub or two. Will do 125X4 @4ohms rms and if you bride the rear 2 channels it will do 325 rms @4ohms. This is a quality amp and for under 200 dollars shipped nothing can touch it.

My system sounds great. Alpine 9815, infinity kappa 6.1's, and JL 8w3V2D4's. PM me your email address and I will send pics.

OK. I starting taking things apart. One back speaker was blown and the other was barely secured. There was actual trash in the speaker box... I am going to try some components up front and either 6 1/2"s with a sub out back, or two 8" subs ala Mr. 90 Convertible...
