I read an article on sound domain that polyfill or fiber fill (aka pillow stuffing) makes a sealed box sound like it's bigger. For us vette owners that's great news since space is at a premium. Has anyone actually tried this?
im using it in my dual 10" box and it works. got the recommendation from fej a while back. i thought he was crazy for putting the crap in there. im like im not at build a bear but it does work
Yes it does work, to an extent. You CAN overfill a box and decrease its output. A rough guide is 1lb per 1cu^3. You can expect a max gain of "size" to the woofer of about 30% or so. So you can trick a woofer in a 1 cube box into thinking it is in a 1.3 cube box.
I would personally start with about 12oz in a corvette box, provided you have a baseline without it (meaning same tune, crossover point, same gains, same track) and see if it changes anything, if it gets a bit better and you are happy with it, leave it alone unless you want to play some more. I personally cannot see a vette box needing more than 1lb of the polyfill myself unless it is multiple woofer, or a large volcano type enclosure of some sort.
Maybe some of the box builders can chime in, I only speak from my experience. There is a chart somewhere online I will see if I can track it down.
Found some laying around at the shop. Tried it out and i didn't think the setup could have been improved, but it sounded noticably better...and that's before advanced amp tuning.
