I like the stock look when it comes to radios and I am sick of spending $$$ on my cars, but I like my music.
So I came up with a solution I can live with.
I am going to add the following to the car. Keeping the head unit and changing out the door speakers, shutting off the rear speakers and adding a 10" sub. All for under $700. Please, opinions welcome, and remember I want better than stock sound for little cash.
ok as far as the amp go to profilecaraudio.com they have the old model refurbs with one year warrantys for way less and the older models are actually ncier then the newer models. The CA600M or any of the sx or msx amps would be great. I would recommend the 400sx or 400msx depending on if you have a 4 ohm or dual 4 ohm sub etc. For wiring knukonceptz.com owns all and includes speaker wire to wire up the sub. The infinity 3.5s are nice just an fyi there is no rewiring needed for installing speakers if you werent sure on that.
For the box i believe corvettecaraudio.com has better pricing and deff better service the website is kinda of messed up right now so your gonna have to call em.
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6960.html this would deff be a much better sub and for not all that much more, the fosgate subs are pretty crappy IMO, and the box that fits the vette is best suited for a 12 generally do to airspace.
400msx would be better. basically some if its a 4ohm single voice coil sub then you want a 2 channel and and you can bridge it into 4ohms. If its a 4 ohm Dual voice coil sub then you can wire the voice coils in parallel to get a 2 ohm load then you would want a mono amp becuase it makes its max power at 2 ohms, its all really just about wiring. that setup the 400msx and the infinity 12 should *** some very nice bass to a vette. i just did the same exact setup in a transam and he was very happy with it
Ok so a Mono amp with the dual coils run parallel. I am going with the Infinity 1252 and the profile amp. The cost comes out to be the same as the original thought.
correct on the wiring. Id say you will have a very nice budget setup I think you will be quite shocked with how good it actually sounds. The infinitys are a great budget/mid level sub. I used to sell alot of them when I installed and never had a complaint. Lets just say with that combo you will deff be able to rock the vette
the stock radio is like 18watts rms or something liek that. amping the rears and not the fronts is the worst thing you can do. You would be better off replacing the whole bose assembly in the door with a 6.5 and amping that and leave the rears as it is
you can make em out of 1/4 mdf yourself, otherwise let me know i can whip up a pair for you for a few dollars and ship them off to you, only thing i wouldnt be able to ship them untill this weekend. prly talkin like 15 dollars shipped. if u have a rotozip of jigsaw its an easy dif. I would deff recommend replacing fronts and amping them over amping just the rears any day of the week.
also if you plan on two amps you will probally need a distribution block to go with the amp kid and then some 8ga to run from the distro to the amps and then ground etc
