Default Questions about hidden antena...

I am looking at possibly installing a hidden antena from Corvette central in my 87, C4, but not sure of how it works. Is there any-one here using one of these? Where would the best place be to install it? How does it compare to my mediocre stock antenna.? I was thinking it might be easier to put this is than fight my stock one when the 87 goes out for paint soon. The car is completely gutted inside now so weird locations would be easy to do. I was thinking of running the wire out through the dash to install it under the rear hood seal...Any ideas?

I can't believe that any hidden antenna can work better than a mast.

If your reception is down, I would wonder how good the reciever is on the head unit... age is a real bitch in this area as circuit board components slowly weaken.

Then again, you live in a mountainous area, and that will wreck havoc on reception in a big ugly way.

It is unlikely that any reception problems you have are due to the antenna. The HU or the wiring would be much more likely culprits.

If the hidden antenna is an amplified one, then it will probably be an improvement over the stock antenna. But then you could just get an amplifier to use with the stock antenna...

I'd think you'd want to mount it as high as possible, but the instructions would be the place to look for mounting suggestions.

I was last using an Alpine HU in the 87. I gave it to friend and don't remember the model, but he realy likes it. The wiring all looked fine when i was gutting the car and removing the stock antena to change the rear bumper to 91up. I have no idea if the hidden one CC sells is amplified or not. The only thing i have heard about the hidden antena is that you shouldn't mount under the dash because there is too much metal in the way??? I wondered about even putting one under the rear bumper, up in the halo or run through the windsheild frame...I just don't know what can be done with them or what would be best...That is why i am asking here. The biggest gain i see, and my main reason for looking at them, is that it will clean up the body with my Greenwood and other add-ons. The clearance on the stock antena to the GC4 wing is under 1/4'' which might rub at speed.
Has any-one tried one yet?

You should search this question in C4 general and C4 tech. I have read posts in the past about people removing there antenna's and filling the hole. I believe the put them behind the rear bumper.
