Default C4 1992 convertible Install Questions

Hi all,

I'm planning a aftermarket stereo install in my C4 'vert but need to check a couple of things, thanks in advance for your help.

1. If I rip out the stock Bose 'gold' system, I heard that I risk getting some trouble codes - is this true?
2. Is there an adapter I can buy that allows me to install a standard Alpine head unit (electrical and structural)?
3. I wish to put in a 6-point roll cage, which probably means I cannot use the front speakers locations. Has anyone installed a rear-only speaker system; or used alternative locations for front speakers?

Thanks,
Andy.

I did another search and found this - so I have answered #1 myself:

Quote:
The SYS flashing indicates the CCM has detected a fault in one of the electrical circuits. The one you have sounds like it is caused by the difference in the resistance in the dimmer circuit. Here is the tech bulletin for it: http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/dave8476/index4.shtml, but this is more of a laymans version of what you'll need to do.

If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new stereo, he will need to do the following:

1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 Watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2-pack for 29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car.)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

My own answer to question #2:

Try Metra online:

http://www.metraonline.com/product_l...vette&type=ALL

Part number 99-3051 is a radio mount. I suspect they sell the electronic adapter too, I'm going to give them a call.

Search for user VRUM VRUM, He makes a better adapter.

Also there is room the doors, but it will be custom work to get them mounted there

Here's my put on #3. I removed the Bose and installed a Kenwood aftermarket using only the rear speakers. Kept the Bose speakers in place and wired them to a Kenwood amp. It was a little tricky installing the head unit but I got it in without much trouble. It sounds pretty OK but IMHO trying to get great sound out of a convertable with all the road noise is nearly impossible.

glade i stumbled onto this. i just got a 90 and it is flashing the sys on the dash. also the installer who did it hacked up a home mede head unit kit. the netal cage the goes around the head unit is not there. but it looks like the metra install kit is a sleeve that holds the radio in this car. some pics of a unit in these cars would make me feel better about ordering this kit...thanks
