Stereo question -- wanna rip it all out!

Been viewing all the past threads on stereo install. My 92 (just acquired) had a loving performance enthusiast owner who did not care about the stereo. I want to rip out all the stock Bose speakers, amps, & deck. I'll start over w/ new speakers, rewire, & reuse Bose enclosures (blocking ports). Big key is the removal of the wiring under dash.
Anyone completely ripped out the old & started over & can guide me to a thread, book, etc. for Vettes on this?
Thanks!

i agree everything alpine is awsome i recommend alpine type s 8s subs as mids in the rear holes and use alpine type r tweets back there with the 8s to make a awsome midrange component set. then use the type r 6.5 component set in the doors. run all this with a alpine pdx4.150 its a very small and very power full 4channel. i recommend just geting the alpine head unit that fits you budget if you wanna do a sub i would go a type r 10 or a mtx 9500 10 you just dont need a 12 in a vette unless you want a huge system i had 2 alpine type r 12s... with big power and i couldnt keep the rear window on the seal ... plus it pushes the door windows out. hope my advice helps

I am thinking of repacing mine too, factory cd player not working, and prob a good time to replace it other that fixing it, agree with after market having fewer problems, I work for a gm dealer and we send back the stock decks all the time for repair at least one a day it seems like, even working there, probally still cheaper to replace the deck with a aftermarket than fixing it.

Just spent the last hour reading the C4 stereo "sticky" & many old posts. Have done some amateur stereo install in past so not scared but:
1-still not clear on rear Bose speaker replacement size (have not pulled it out yet to check)...what size bolts in direct? When "pod" removed what is left?
2-Anyone have wiring harness adaptors for new aftermarket head units when the old Bose head & brain removed? This is the only part that really scares me.
Thanks in advance!

You do not need a wiring harness, just run three wires from your CDM (the brain of the Bose system) to your new head unit (power, ground, and antenna on/off). You will need an antenna extension, and a mounting bracket for the HU. Forum member Vrum Vrum makes a very nice setup, I'll post a picture on mine at the end
You need to pick a replacement system. This means you have to decide how much money you want to spend. You should be able to mount some nice 5 1/4" components up front, with some 6 1/2 in the back, OR you can replace the rear speakers w/ 8" subs. Then you will need an amp to drive them.

There are a couple of links to some C4 installs.

This is what a Vrum Vrum faceplate looks like, I painted mine to match the color of the dash, they come in black.
Hope this helps
