Default 3 way components in a C6?

Hi all - I was wondering if anyone's tried to put a 3 way component system in the doors of their C6? I'm mainly concerned with the upper opening on the door panel - will it fit a 4" speaker? Any depth limitation?

Ideally I'd go with the Dynaudio 3 way (with 8" woofer), but since I'm just buying the Vette, financial limitations means I'll most likely be going with the JL Audio XR653, or MB Quart QSD system (4" component with Add a Woofer 6 1/2).

Thanks for your help!

The opening is for a 3.5" speaker, not a 4". However a 4" mid would likely only have some of the surround being covered so sonically that would be ok. You will have to fab something up to extend the mounting point though because your 4" will not line up to the screw holes of the door opening. That will lose you a bit of mounting depth dependning upon the thickness of whatever you use.

As for mounting depth, here's a couple of pictures to help illustrate. The first one you can see the opening above & to the right of the Bose sub where the magnet of the mid goes. The stock mid driver is about 1.75" deep, though I think there's at least another 1/2" of mounting depth available.

I think the depth will be the key. Fabricating a mount shouldn't be too bad - mainly a matter of making sure I have good attachment points - maybe event mounting the speaker to the door instead of the panel. with 2" to work with it shouldn't be too hard. And it looks like the cutout in the door is sufficiently large. Thanks for the pics - I hadn't seen a good one of the inner panel previously.

Mounting to the door should work. An install thread I remember from a while back (professional installer) did exactly that, where they put a panel over that opening and mounted the mid into it.

Good luck!
