Hey guys, I just want to ask what you guys think I should replace my front speakers with. I was thinking of making a new mount to use 6.5" components in my c5 doors. What can you guys recommend for use with the factory head unit? Or should I just replace with 3.5. I am really just looking for better highs and do not want to hack the door panels up. Any suggestions will be much appreciated
unless you're going with an amp or an aftermarket headunit I'd suggest just upgrading the 3.5" speakers.
I hear that is a big improvement over stock(keep in mind that I was a MECP certified installer for almost 20 years, and I was an IASCA judge for a few years in the 90's) I am just looking for better highs without adding too much weight. I do also have a JL 10 installed.
For comp speakers, my experience has been with alpines (type "s" on my truck and type "x" on my coupe) for an unamplified head unit, i'd reccomend, the type "s" (SPS 171A) because of the higher sensitivity. They're a good buy too at around $100-120 a set. when used with a sub and a quality head unit, the SQ is excellent.
there is no way that you'll approach the dynamic potential of a component set with 20 wrms of headunit power though. The sq will be ok, but with road and engine noise of a slightly modded vette you're going to be wasting your money.
especially when you are trying to improve sound quality. 99% of people here end up upgrading to a complete system after a few months of just replacing speakers or adding a sub. Im one of them
